Bridging the invisible barriers between modern Rock, Metal, Punk and even hardcore music, The Bronx was formed in 2002 in Los Angeles, by vocalist Matt Caughthran, guitarist Joby J. Ford, bass player James Tweedy and drummer Jorma Vik.

Prior to forming their record label, White Drugs, the Bronx signed a contract with Island Def Jam Music Group. Rumor has it, The Bronx had only performed twelve live shows before being approached by a major label. Former Guns N' Roses member Gilby Clarke produced The Bronx's first release and played on "White Guilt", the first single off their second, again self-titled album, which was recorded in July 2006. Ken Horne of The Dragons played some guitar parts on the album and soon joined the band as second guitarist.

In April 2007 the band announced that they would record two new albums, which like their first two albums will both be eponymously titled. The Bronx will be a punk rock album, while El Bronx will be a mariachi album. They entered a recording studio in March 2008 to begin work on both albums, with Brad Magers, replacing Tweedy on bass guitar and Vincent Hidalgo also joining the group. That June they posted the new song "Knifeman", from The Bronx, on their Myspace profile, followed by the premier of "PR Rules" from El Bronx. In the summer of 2008 The Bronx played the entirety of the Vans Warped Tour. They also appeared in the film What We Do Is Secret as Black Flag, performing the Black Flag song "Police Story". In preparation for the release of El Bronx, the band has recently been performing as "Mariachi El Bronx" when playing their mariachi set and as "The Bronx" for rock sets. Their latest album, The Bronx was released on November 11, 2008, followed by Mariachi El Bronx in September 2009.
