The world of the gaming headset just got a bit more crowded. And a bit more affordable.
For years, there have been two varieties of gaming headsets. Companies such as ASTRO have made stunningly brilliant units, delivering phenomenal sound and comfort, but such headsets came at prohibitive prices, far more than your average college student could afford. Sure, there were cheaper units, thanks to the likes of Logitech and even Turtle Beach, but those units felt, well, cheap.
And that’s where Skullcandy comes in. Well-known for its headphones, the company dropped hints that it would branch into gaming when it acquired venerable ASTRO in 2011, then followed by releasing a line of headsets late last year, headlined by the PLYR 2, a wireless unit that won’t kill a college wallet but will be a joy for college ears.
The PLYR 2 headset isn’t flawless, but at $129.99, it’s one of the finest values in a growing market. Skullcandy draws on ASTRO’s experience and technology and makes a few concessions, creating an affordable unit that delivers far more than tinny and pathetic sound.
The stylings are all Skullcandy. The PLYR 2s are available in a bevy of bold colors, with the Skullcandy logo and a random lined pattern adorning the outside of each earcup. The skater crowd is the obvious target of these sets; there’s nothing understated about them at all.
But underneath all that glitz lies plenty of ASTRO influence. The earcups have that same soft and comfortable feeling, and, much like just about everything in the ASTRO line, a thick piece of cushioning lines the headband. The units thus feel much like ASTRO’s brilliant A50s, delivering a nice soft feel that you can wear for hours without dealing with any strain.
The rest of the construction also borrows heavily from ASTRO’s ideas. There’s a movable boom mic, which automatically shuts off when it clicks into the up position, three EQ settings with subtle differences, and a nob that governs both master volume, game volume and voice volume. All of this is easily accessible, and everything handles well, even in the heat of a Call of Duty: Black Ops II battle.
The all-plastic frame may turn some off, even breed concern that the PLYR 2s could break, but the unit still seems sturdy, and it has a fair amount of give.
Sound quality, meanwhile, is solid. The cushy earcups cancel out just about all outside sound, delivering an incredibly immersive experience, and you get excellent bass reproduction. Explosions in Black Ops II and crashes in The Walking Dead both reverberated with impact, and voices are strong and potent.
However, high-pitched sound effects and voices are just a little bit too tinny, and the overall effect can be occasionally grating. Overall, sound quality is solid, even if the PLYR 2s are definitely not in the class of higher-end units.
Not that appreciating the PLYR 2s comes easily. Like just about every other wireless headset on the market, the PLYR 2s are a pain to set up. The technology is good – 2.4 gHz transmission and a slick GMX transmitter that comes prepared – but the process of connecting with a console continues to be annoying, especially if you rely on an HDMI connection. Things are even worse if you have a complicated home theater setup, and it doesn’t help that the transmitter lacks an optical pass-through option.
Then again, you can’t fully blame Skullcandy; no company has truly solved the riddle of the HDMI or the home theater. And I’m not sure that the PLYR 2s are geared toward the home theater crowd, anyway.
It is, however, slightly disappointing that Skullcandy still fails to include a 3.5 mm jack. The headset can still be used easily with a PC, but a 3.5 mm option would have opened the PLYR 2 to even greater possibilities, letting PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS users fall for this set. Skullcandy sells a wired SLYR set, but the PLYR 2 could have given a bit more mileage to users with a 3.5 mm jack.
Despite all that, gamers will draw plenty of usage from the PLYR 2s, which deliver tremendous value despite their imperfections. Most other quality wireless options cost upwards of $200, but the PLYR 2s deliver a solid wireless experience for $70 less, meaning you can buy the headset and the game.
And that’s something any budget-conscious gamer can appreciate.

The same issues that come with all wireless headsets are present with the PLYR 2’s, meaning set up for wireless gaming is a bit difficult and if you connect to your TV through an HDMI, you are going to have a hard time using these. Although these are technically wireless, you will need to connect through a wire for the Xbox 360, but that is just because of the system. For PlayStation 3, it is much simpler.
The convenience of the headset is what makes it a quality product. Gamers can control the volume, switch between game and voice modes, change sound quality/preferences (bass, supreme and precision), as well as turn the headset on or off with simple buttons located on the outside of the earcups. Another great component is the microphone, which despite being a little stiff, has the extremely helpful feature of muting when it is moved into the upright position.Sound-wise, the headset does not have the same quality as the Astro line, but it certainly does match up favorably with other headsets within its price point ($129.95). Communication comes in clearly, the game sounds are sharp and you can change the balance between the two, which is nice depending on what you prefer to use the headset for while playing.

They range from low end headsets to more expensive high end headsets and in the end, the ones you choose are mainly based on what you can afford. Why are gaming headsets big business? Well, because most consoles these days don’t include headsets unless you buy an Xbox 360, and the ones included with that are crap. They only allows for chat and don’t immerse you in the game. If you are an avid gamer, the first thing you’ll want to invest in is a good gaming headset, one that not only allows for chat, but also allows you to hear the games as if you were actually in the games. One such company that makes gaming headsets is Skullcandy and their latest headset, the PLYR 2 is what I’m looking at today. What makes these quite interesting is that Astro Gaming had their hand with the design of these and it shows. As a disclaimer, I love Astro Gaming headsets and own not only the critically acclaimed A40 headsets, but the A30headsets as well. That’s why I was excited when I heard about the PLYR 2 and even more excited that I would be able to get my hands on a pair.
The Skullcandy PLYR 2 features wireless technology, Skullcandy’s proprietary Supreme Sound technology, 3 separate equalizer modes, an adjustable boom mike, and the ability to be used on an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and most mobile phones, tablets, and MP3 players.
Design and Build Quality
One of the first things you’ll notice about the Skullcandy PLYR 2 headsets id that this is not a typical Skullcandy design. In fact, I’d say they are completely different from anything Skullcandy has made in the past. Again, this is probably attributed to having Astro Gaming as part of their family now and the influence they are having in their designs. The PLYR 2 headsets are very clean looking, with a design that is very attractive, functional, comfortable, and sleek. The PLYR 2 headsets are available in 3 different color combinations, the ones I received were the matte black pair with yellow accents.
Unlike the previously mentioned Astro Gaming A30 and A40 headsets, the PLYR 2 headsets do not need a separate wireless adapter in order to function wirelessly. Instead, they are built into the headset itself, similar to the new A50 headsets. All you need to do it connect the wireless receiver to your TV and gaming console and you’re pretty much set to use them. On the wireless receiver, you need to plug in the audio cables first that connect to your television set that goes between the audio cable from your gaming console to your TV. The connect the included USB cable to your video console for power. I like this setup because it does not require a separate AC adapter which takes up space. There is also another USB cable you can connect to the wireless receiver that will charge your headset when not in use. Yes, the PLYR 2 headsets are rechargeable and do not require batteries. Huge plus here in my book as batteries don’t come cheap. On the right ear piece, you’ll find the power button to turn on the headset as well as the volume control “joystick” which I’ve never seen this type on control on a headset before. Basically each tirection o nthe joystick either lowers or raises the volume as well as allows you to adjust game or chat volume. It’s pretty ingenious actually.
On the design side of things, the PLYR 2 headsets are full of little details. Padded ear surrounds as well as padded head support, an intricate design etched into both side ear pieces, and even on the inside of the ear pieces themselves, Skullcandy has their logo somehow burned into the padding. It really is a gorgeous design and the yellow accents just make it stand out even more. The boom mic on the left side is also a very elegant piece. It’s entirely surrounded in rubber and very solid feeling. You’re able to bend it to almost any position and it actually stays in position. It even includes a very handy feature. Flip it down to chat in-game or flip it back up to mute chat. Very simple to use and again, ingenious.
Usage
Using the Skullcandy PLYR 2 gaming headsets couldn’t be more easy. Basically you just hook up the wireless receiver between your TV and gaming console and then sync the headset to the receiver. That’s an easy process as well as you just hold down both power buttons and wait until they stop flashing. Very simple and pain free. On the PlayStation 3 and PC, you’re pretty much set to go after but if you’re using this on an Xbox 360, you’ll have to hook up another cable from the headset to your game controller. This obviously is less elegant, but blame this on the Xbox 360 for making you do it this way. It’s the same way for all headsets used on the 360, but mainly if you plan to use it for chat.
To control the volume on the PLYR 2 headset, use the 4-way control stick on the right earpiece. Up and down control the volume globally while left and right adjusts the amount of in-game volume in relation to in-game chat volume. On the right earpiece, you’ll also find the 3-way toggle for EQ modes. This is used to switch between game, movie, and music sound profiles. To recharge your headset, just plug it into a USB cable and you’re good to go. It doesn’t take that long either to fully recharge them.
The PLYR 2 headset can also adjust to pretty much any head size. They are adjustable height and they are springy enough where they can also adjust to head width. Again, I find them to be very comfortable to wear for long periods of time thanks to the heavy padding and I like the fact that the ear pieces fir around your ears and don’t sit on top of them. The padding used is very soft allowing them to easily mold itself to your head.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Skullcany PLYR 2 headsets are a great alternative to the more expensive Astro Gaming headsets. They may not feature the advanced Dolby Digital 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, but for the casual gamer who wants something better than the stock headsets, these are definitely a step above the rest. I would say these are just as good as the Astro Gaming headsets in terms of quality and build and the wireless feature is certainly a huge plus. They might not have the high end sound quality that the Astro Gaming headsets have, but in my opinion, they still sound great and again, the average gamer will be very happy with these.
The price of the Skullcandy PLYR 2 gaming headsets are around $129.95. That is very competitive pricing considering most others are a bit more or around the same price range for similarly spec’d wireless headsets, but with these, you get headsets that very comfortable, well made, easy to set up, and despite just being stereo headsets, they sound very good.

As of this writing, I've had the headset for half a month now and am very glad that I purchased them. I will cover 3 aspects: General, Gaming, and Lync use. General: --- The ear cups are comfortable padded cloth that provides a decent amount of noise cancelling from outside of the headset. --- The wireless range is pretty good indoors. I was able to go to the other side of the house and still hear the in-game sounds coming from the main menu clearly without any issues. --- Battery life: I did a full charge monday, it's now saturday night, and I have still not had to charge it yet. I played 3-4 hours a day average each day (tues - saturday) and it just now started beeping, indicating there is a 15% charge left before it needs to be recharged. Gaming: --- It took me a day to get used to the volume control feature, but after playing around with the settings, I was able to mimic my normal volume settings easily. And, to adjust the settings its straightforward once you get the idea of how it works. --- A difference from the wired Trition Kunai's that I faced was that I had to increase the volume settings so that I could be heard more clearly. --- I like the swiveling mic and how it mutes once you swivel it upwards. If I'm not using the mic, I don't need it in front of my face. And, if I'm not using the mic, it does not need to be on. --- It's not surround sound, but I'm not too worried about hearing a pin drop on the other side of the map or if I can hear someone breathing nearby that isn't a teammate. Microsoft Lync use: --- I used MIcrosoft Lync 2013 Basic for this example. --- I plugged the transmitter into my laptop and it instantly connected. --- In order to get it to work, I had to change the speaker settings to the headphones output. --- Plug the transmitter into the USB port. --- From there, the mic was already set for the transmitter. If it is not set up yet, then change the mic settings to the transmitter. --- Take an AUX cable and plug it into the headphones output on the laptop and then plug it into the AUX port on the transmitter. --- From there that was it to get it connected and able to use it to Lync. --- --- --- Note: The mute function on Lync works independently from the mute function that the headset has. --- --- --- So if you mute using the Lync feature, it will not matter if the mic is swiveled up or not, it will be muted. --- --- --- If you swivel the mic upward, it will mute the mic regardless of it you set that on Lync or not. So there's no point in muting it on Lync, if all you have to do is swivel the mic upward.

I'd have to say that these are quite literally THE BEST headphones I have ever seen. The price is undoubtedly more than appropriate for their function and I'd be willing to shell out an extra $100-$150 if I had to for this amazing pair. Their comfort is unmatched by any set I've ever seen and that's really saying something since i've been through at least 20 different headphones over my life. I decided to test their range both indoors and out, as well. I managed to get 150 feet before a cut off without any obstacles between the receiver and myself outdoors and roughly 50 indoors with a few walls and a steel door between the receiver and myself. With that, I regrettably have to point out ONE con to this headset. Being a man that enjoys a gaming headset that can double as my on-the-go headphones, I'm slightly disappointed that I cannot attach these to my iphone. Regardless, I can still use these for music and they do so remarkably. The user-friendly interface on it, not easily hit while gaming, is great for changing settings on the fly, unlike other headsets. As an audiophile and adamant nerd, I give these a 9.9999.../10. If they could connect to bluetooth, they would be irrefutably THE BEST headphones/headset in the world. Pros: *fantastic sound quality *outside-world-drowning volume *air-like comfort (almost feels as though nothing's there) *McGuyver-like versatility Cons: *unable to connect to bluetooth

i got these about a moth or so ago, and have used them everyday since. they're great for everything from Gaming, videos, movies, music, and anything else you can think of. the quality if fit and finish is acceptable, defiantly not falling apart on you soon. Now, the one downside i think you may be able to overcome is the fact you cant really use them with your phone, it has to be hooked up with the transmitter thing to hear your computer/console ,BUT for a xbox the headphones have a 2.5mm female jack, so i would thunk if you were to put a 2.5mm Male to a 3.5mm male, you could MAYBE plug your phone into it. and if you could, the mic isnt too off putting.. Nest thing, comfort. these things are the most comfortable things i've ever worn on my head. even for hours of wearing, you dont feel them, and they're very breathable.

First impressions out of the box are immediately impressive. The headset is light with sturdy construction. The transmitter holds true to approx 100ft or so with absolutely no problems; depending on the layout of your home (walls etc.). The mic is clear and easily moves out of the way for convenient muting. Battery life is no issue here either, lasting more than enough for a majority of gaming needs. I think the most impressive thing about these headphones are the audio quality. Although it isn't Dolby surround, you are immersed into a great gaming experience. I'll tell ya', I've been using the built-in television speakers, and you'll here things in more detail than ever! All 3 EQ setting will surely get you what you desire with bass, clarity, etc. The set fits snug but not overly tight, and the earcups/headband provide much comfort #Minimal Audio Leakage#! I run this with the PS3 & HDMI. Most televisions will enable you to run both at the same time. I would only suggest that BEFORE you purchase this unit; make sure that your TV has Optical #Optical to RCA#, 3.5mm Audio #3.5mm to RCA#, or RCA outputs #no conversion needed#. You may need to purchase a conversion component to connect properly which is a down side. I would LOVE to see Skullcandy move toward integration with HDMI or Bluetooth. It would make for convenience and an extra $10 3.5mm to RCA purchase. And at this price point, should be heavily considered for future enhancements. Overall I would reccomend this headset to anyone! In my opinion, this headset is far superior than any of the competitors as of today. You'll definitely want to consider this model as you move foward with your shopping. Good luck!

Alright but with some major issues

ive had mine for almost a month now and theyre really comfortable and look cool however they sound bleed terribly and they dont cancel from outside at all, also mine has had problems when i get phone calls i guess the transmitter gets messed up and it max's out the volume ( VERY LOUD) and mine just randomly cut off sometimes normally fixed just by pressing the power button and itll come back up this time though right before i wrote this actually they shut off right in the middle of gameplay and have yet to show signs of life i know its fully charged and ive only payed 4 hours with them so bottom line if you dont mind a few bugs these are good for the price otherwise go with a better quality brand evnthough i love skullcandy headphones.

The plyr 2 are great before when i had turtle beach x42 these blew those away. Even that these dont have surround sound, plus these are great listening to music. These have great bass! I love that they connect to xbox then to your computer/laptop easily.

I've had these headphones for about 3 months and have been using them on my new Windows 8 computer. They are really nice but seem to have some problems. The main issue seems to be with drivers. When watching streaming video on youtube, vimeo, netflix, it will randomly not transmit audio to the headphones. I have to refresh or load another page. Sometimes I will have one tab playing audio and another tab that is not. No drivers are provided for the headphones so will have to see about warranty. The power button is also a little buggy, you have to really press hard for the headphones to turn on or off. Otherwise good sound, and comfortable.

This is a good quality headset (for my first headset). It has great sound for a stereo headset, and the 3 EQ settings work well for many games. The bass is nice and rich sounding, it will get rough during games like Halo or COD when you have many guns and explosions going off at once, but otherwise it handles the bass great. The other 2 EQ settings sound great and you are able to hear everything from them. The voice chat is clear sounding, people I play with says I sound clear, however it'll buzz and cut out every now and then; however this is probably a problem with the Xbox controller plug in and not so much the headset itself. Xbox is the only system you will need to plug a cord into the controller to use the voice chat. It's simple to find a happy medium between voice chat and game audio as well. To me the headset is extremely comfortable and even after 3-4 hrs of play my head or ears don't hurt. My ears aren't the smallest and I do wear glasses and felt no discomfort at all. The headset feels durable, and unless you plan on throwing it around (who would) it'll last. However; if you are purchasing this for Xbox you will definitely need the audio adapter cable, if you don't have audio out ports from your tv. And yes you can still get HD video from your hdmi while using the audio adapter. The battery life is extensive and does last so no need to charge it after every night of play. Overall I highly suggest the headset, it won't out do a good surround sound system, but for quiet and personal gaming its a great set.

I pruchased a set of Turtle beach DPX21 for my son and have used them for my gaming as well. My wife got me a set of these for Christmas and the comfort and sound are far superior. The DPX 21 are wired and limit your mobility and cost the same. I would recommend these headset to any person gaming or listening to music.

Once I saw that Skullcandy was releasing its own line of gaming headsets I was thrilled for the release. I have a pair of the PLYR2 and gave a pair of the SLYRs to a friend as a gift for Christmas. The controllers were a little difficult fine tuning at first, but once you spend some quality time learning how to use them they are awesome. Some people have complained about the echoing, I have found that to be the case when you have don't have a good balance between chat and game volume. I have not had one person tell me I sound bad or echo unless I purposely tried to make it echo so I could help someone else out to tune their set properly as to not echo. Definitely worth spending the coin on these. I have had Turtle Beach X42s that have Dolby that sound equally as good as these STEREO headphones. Can't wait for the PLYR1 to come out and see how great those are.

I love the design of it (as well as how they sound. It's just awesome). One downside is the ear cups materials (after wearing for hours, I start to feel a little discomfort. I wish they could make the ear cups bigger as well as their material for the ear cups). Overall, I highly recommended this headset. Really enjoying it.

The world of the gaming headset just got a bit more crowded. And a bit more affordable.
For years, there have been two varieties of gaming headsets. Companies such as ASTRO have made stunningly brilliant units, delivering phenomenal sound and comfort, but such headsets came at prohibitive prices, far more than your average college student could afford. Sure, there were cheaper units, thanks to the likes of Logitech and even Turtle Beach, but those units felt, well, cheap.
And that’s where Skullcandy comes in. Well-known for its headphones, the company dropped hints that it would branch into gaming when it acquired venerable ASTRO in 2011, then followed by releasing a line of headsets late last year, headlined by the PLYR 2, a wireless unit that won’t kill a college wallet but will be a joy for college ears.
The PLYR 2 headset isn’t flawless, but at $129.99, it’s one of the finest values in a growing market. Skullcandy draws on ASTRO’s experience and technology and makes a few concessions, creating an affordable unit that delivers far more than tinny and pathetic sound.
The stylings are all Skullcandy. The PLYR 2s are available in a bevy of bold colors, with the Skullcandy logo and a random lined pattern adorning the outside of each earcup. The skater crowd is the obvious target of these sets; there’s nothing understated about them at all.
But underneath all that glitz lies plenty of ASTRO influence. The earcups have that same soft and comfortable feeling, and, much like just about everything in the ASTRO line, a thick piece of cushioning lines the headband. The units thus feel much like ASTRO’s brilliant A50s, delivering a nice soft feel that you can wear for hours without dealing with any strain.
The rest of the construction also borrows heavily from ASTRO’s ideas. There’s a movable boom mic, which automatically shuts off when it clicks into the up position, three EQ settings with subtle differences, and a nob that governs both master volume, game volume and voice volume. All of this is easily accessible, and everything handles well, even in the heat of a Call of Duty: Black Ops II battle.
The all-plastic frame may turn some off, even breed concern that the PLYR 2s could break, but the unit still seems sturdy, and it has a fair amount of give.
Sound quality, meanwhile, is solid. The cushy earcups cancel out just about all outside sound, delivering an incredibly immersive experience, and you get excellent bass reproduction. Explosions in Black Ops II and crashes in The Walking Dead both reverberated with impact, and voices are strong and potent.
However, high-pitched sound effects and voices are just a little bit too tinny, and the overall effect can be occasionally grating. Overall, sound quality is solid, even if the PLYR 2s are definitely not in the class of higher-end units.
Not that appreciating the PLYR 2s comes easily. Like just about every other wireless headset on the market, the PLYR 2s are a pain to set up. The technology is good – 2.4 gHz transmission and a slick GMX transmitter that comes prepared – but the process of connecting with a console continues to be annoying, especially if you rely on an HDMI connection. Things are even worse if you have a complicated home theater setup, and it doesn’t help that the transmitter lacks an optical pass-through option.
Then again, you can’t fully blame Skullcandy; no company has truly solved the riddle of the HDMI or the home theater. And I’m not sure that the PLYR 2s are geared toward the home theater crowd, anyway.
It is, however, slightly disappointing that Skullcandy still fails to include a 3.5 mm jack. The headset can still be used easily with a PC, but a 3.5 mm option would have opened the PLYR 2 to even greater possibilities, letting PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS users fall for this set. Skullcandy sells a wired SLYR set, but the PLYR 2 could have given a bit more mileage to users with a 3.5 mm jack.
Despite all that, gamers will draw plenty of usage from the PLYR 2s, which deliver tremendous value despite their imperfections. Most other quality wireless options cost upwards of $200, but the PLYR 2s deliver a solid wireless experience for $70 less, meaning you can buy the headset and the game.
And that’s something any budget-conscious gamer can appreciate.

The same issues that come with all wireless headsets are present with the PLYR 2’s, meaning set up for wireless gaming is a bit difficult and if you connect to your TV through an HDMI, you are going to have a hard time using these. Although these are technically wireless, you will need to connect through a wire for the Xbox 360, but that is just because of the system. For PlayStation 3, it is much simpler.
The convenience of the headset is what makes it a quality product. Gamers can control the volume, switch between game and voice modes, change sound quality/preferences (bass, supreme and precision), as well as turn the headset on or off with simple buttons located on the outside of the earcups. Another great component is the microphone, which despite being a little stiff, has the extremely helpful feature of muting when it is moved into the upright position.Sound-wise, the headset does not have the same quality as the Astro line, but it certainly does match up favorably with other headsets within its price point ($129.95). Communication comes in clearly, the game sounds are sharp and you can change the balance between the two, which is nice depending on what you prefer to use the headset for while playing.
All said, you’ll be hard pressed to find a wireless headset that provides the stylish, convenient, quality featured that the PLYR 2 offers.Final Verdict: Buy it!

They range from low end headsets to more expensive high end headsets and in the end, the ones you choose are mainly based on what you can afford. Why are gaming headsets big business? Well, because most consoles these days don’t include headsets unless you buy an Xbox 360, and the ones included with that are crap. They only allows for chat and don’t immerse you in the game. If you are an avid gamer, the first thing you’ll want to invest in is a good gaming headset, one that not only allows for chat, but also allows you to hear the games as if you were actually in the games. One such company that makes gaming headsets is Skullcandy and their latest headset, the PLYR 2 is what I’m looking at today. What makes these quite interesting is that Astro Gaming had their hand with the design of these and it shows. As a disclaimer, I love Astro Gaming headsets and own not only the critically acclaimed A40 headsets, but the A30headsets as well. That’s why I was excited when I heard about the PLYR 2 and even more excited that I would be able to get my hands on a pair.
The Skullcandy PLYR 2 features wireless technology, Skullcandy’s proprietary Supreme Sound technology, 3 separate equalizer modes, an adjustable boom mike, and the ability to be used on an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and most mobile phones, tablets, and MP3 players.
Design and Build Quality
One of the first things you’ll notice about the Skullcandy PLYR 2 headsets id that this is not a typical Skullcandy design. In fact, I’d say they are completely different from anything Skullcandy has made in the past. Again, this is probably attributed to having Astro Gaming as part of their family now and the influence they are having in their designs. The PLYR 2 headsets are very clean looking, with a design that is very attractive, functional, comfortable, and sleek. The PLYR 2 headsets are available in 3 different color combinations, the ones I received were the matte black pair with yellow accents.
Unlike the previously mentioned Astro Gaming A30 and A40 headsets, the PLYR 2 headsets do not need a separate wireless adapter in order to function wirelessly. Instead, they are built into the headset itself, similar to the new A50 headsets. All you need to do it connect the wireless receiver to your TV and gaming console and you’re pretty much set to use them. On the wireless receiver, you need to plug in the audio cables first that connect to your television set that goes between the audio cable from your gaming console to your TV. The connect the included USB cable to your video console for power. I like this setup because it does not require a separate AC adapter which takes up space. There is also another USB cable you can connect to the wireless receiver that will charge your headset when not in use. Yes, the PLYR 2 headsets are rechargeable and do not require batteries. Huge plus here in my book as batteries don’t come cheap. On the right ear piece, you’ll find the power button to turn on the headset as well as the volume control “joystick” which I’ve never seen this type on control on a headset before. Basically each tirection o nthe joystick either lowers or raises the volume as well as allows you to adjust game or chat volume. It’s pretty ingenious actually.
On the design side of things, the PLYR 2 headsets are full of little details. Padded ear surrounds as well as padded head support, an intricate design etched into both side ear pieces, and even on the inside of the ear pieces themselves, Skullcandy has their logo somehow burned into the padding. It really is a gorgeous design and the yellow accents just make it stand out even more. The boom mic on the left side is also a very elegant piece. It’s entirely surrounded in rubber and very solid feeling. You’re able to bend it to almost any position and it actually stays in position. It even includes a very handy feature. Flip it down to chat in-game or flip it back up to mute chat. Very simple to use and again, ingenious.
Usage
Using the Skullcandy PLYR 2 gaming headsets couldn’t be more easy. Basically you just hook up the wireless receiver between your TV and gaming console and then sync the headset to the receiver. That’s an easy process as well as you just hold down both power buttons and wait until they stop flashing. Very simple and pain free. On the PlayStation 3 and PC, you’re pretty much set to go after but if you’re using this on an Xbox 360, you’ll have to hook up another cable from the headset to your game controller. This obviously is less elegant, but blame this on the Xbox 360 for making you do it this way. It’s the same way for all headsets used on the 360, but mainly if you plan to use it for chat.
To control the volume on the PLYR 2 headset, use the 4-way control stick on the right earpiece. Up and down control the volume globally while left and right adjusts the amount of in-game volume in relation to in-game chat volume. On the right earpiece, you’ll also find the 3-way toggle for EQ modes. This is used to switch between game, movie, and music sound profiles. To recharge your headset, just plug it into a USB cable and you’re good to go. It doesn’t take that long either to fully recharge them.
The PLYR 2 headset can also adjust to pretty much any head size. They are adjustable height and they are springy enough where they can also adjust to head width. Again, I find them to be very comfortable to wear for long periods of time thanks to the heavy padding and I like the fact that the ear pieces fir around your ears and don’t sit on top of them. The padding used is very soft allowing them to easily mold itself to your head.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Skullcany PLYR 2 headsets are a great alternative to the more expensive Astro Gaming headsets. They may not feature the advanced Dolby Digital 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, but for the casual gamer who wants something better than the stock headsets, these are definitely a step above the rest. I would say these are just as good as the Astro Gaming headsets in terms of quality and build and the wireless feature is certainly a huge plus. They might not have the high end sound quality that the Astro Gaming headsets have, but in my opinion, they still sound great and again, the average gamer will be very happy with these.
The price of the Skullcandy PLYR 2 gaming headsets are around $129.95. That is very competitive pricing considering most others are a bit more or around the same price range for similarly spec’d wireless headsets, but with these, you get headsets that very comfortable, well made, easy to set up, and despite just being stereo headsets, they sound very good.

I received the Plyr 2 as a gift and I would like to know how to connect it to my AV system. My Xbox, DVD, and Direct TV DVR are all connected to the AV Receiver by HDMI cable and the TV is wall mounted 10 feet away from the AV system. All sound is directed by the AV Receiver to the surround sound speakers.

Well you only have a couple options here. If your tv has audio out jacks (red and white out) then you can use those to hook up your skullcandy to. Otherwise if not you'll need to purchase an audio adapter for your Xbox 360. What this does is hooks up to the component feature on your Xbox and provides the audio out jacks; and as long as you have a thin enough hdmi cable ull be able to keep your hdmi cable plugged in at the same time and won't lose hd video. Sound can and will also play from the tv with this setup, so you never need to unplug anything if you don't wanna play with the headset at some point. The audio adapter can be found cheap online anywhere, especially at amazon.Age: 25-34

Is it normal for the mic considerably quieter than other usb mic devices?
There is no mic boost option under sound levels in recording devices. Everything is maxed out as far as sensitivity within windows.

Yeah you can! Is a little bit of a goofy set up but i just got my headset today and it took me a few to figure it out :) Leave your ps3 connected to the HDMI but also plug in the Standard AV cable that came with the ps3 (RED WHITE YELLOW cables) connect the red and white to the transmitter like in all the diagrams. Then under the home screen on the ps3 go to Settings> Sound settings > Audio Output Settings and change the from HDMI to Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI ! Just pair the headset to the base and it should work. Its a little goofy because you can just leave the red and white cables connected to only the transmitter and not to any thing else ( leaves the prongs exposed ). To make it look more legit they should have another cord that has a set of female plugs instead of the splice plug.Age: 18-24

I received the Plyr 2 as a gift and I would like to know how to connect it to my AV system. You can still use hdmi but you need to buy a cord that goes into the red and white inputs on your tv that has a 3.5mm input, and plug in a 2 sided 3.5mm cord into it. That's how I do it.4 months, 1 week ago

Well you only have a couple options here. If your tv has audio out jacks (red and white out) then you can use those to hook up your skullcandy to. Otherwise if not you'll need to purchase an audio adapter for your Xbox 360. What this does is hooks up to the component feature on your Xbox and provides the audio out jacks; and as long as you have a thin enough hdmi cable ull be able to keep your hdmi cable plugged in at the same time and won't lose hd video. Sound can and will also play from the tv with this setup, so you never need to unplug anything if you don't wanna play with the headset at some point. The audio adapter can be found cheap online anywhere, especially at amazon.Age: 25-34

How does one go about hooking up these headphones to an xbox 360 that needs to use HDMI? I have a newer style XBOX 360 and even if it was possible you can't have both a HDMI connection and a AV Cable hooked up at the same time, won't fit.

Yes but only if you wish to chat back. If you have your Xbox set up to allow voice chat to come through the tv speakers, you are able to hear people chat through the headset without having it plugged in. There is no mic boost option under sound levels in recording devices. Everything is maxed out as far as sensitivity within windows.

Yeah you can! Is a little bit of a goofy set up but i just got my headset today and it took me a few to figure it out :) Leave your ps3 connected to the HDMI but also plug in the Standard AV cable that came with the ps3 (RED WHITE YELLOW cables) connect the red and white to the transmitter like in all the diagrams. Then under the home screen on the ps3 go to Settings> Sound settings > Audio Output Settings and change the from HDMI to Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI ! Just pair the headset to the base and it should work. Its a little goofy because you can just leave the red and white cables connected to only the transmitter and not to any thing else ( leaves the prongs exposed ). To make it look more legit they should have another cord that has a set of female plugs instead of the splice plug.Age: 18-24
