Good sound quality

The design of the headphones aren't too bulky, they are a headset. As all headsets do, it has some noise canceling but it isn't made as noise canceling headphones. They're adjustable and there is a microphone on the wire like most skullcandy headphones do. The wire is detachable making it easy to store the headphones. I use these headphones everyday, the sound quality is amazing (my computer master volume stays around 35% any louder for me and I can't hear anything else). The cord is sturdy but, if you do end up yanking the wire in the cord, you can buy a replacement, which I think is a lot cheaper than sending your headphones back in and sending a claim etc. As for comfort, there are two different covers for the headphones. One is a cushion and the other is more of a rubber. The rubber is slightly uncomfortable and the cushion makes a suction that sticks to my ears at times. All in all, if you want headphones for everyday use, these are really good.

100% honest review
March 16th, 2013
by Taco878
There are very few reviews that give a detailed explanation on the skull candy cassette headphones. I hope I can provide a good explanation, but this is from my personal experience, so do not base your entire decision on me. First off, the shipping was fast and very impressive. The estimated shipping was 7 to 10 business days; I received mine in 4 days. The over-all quality is very impressive for 50 dollars especially for what it is striving for (an athletic set of durable and mobile headphones). As far as sound is concerned, these are good if you are looking for a strong base, the lows and highs are not impressive, but base is good. The comfort on these headphones is not the best, but it is not necessarily designed for comfort. It is in no means bad however, and compared to other reviews saying how bad the comfort was, I found it, again not too bad. The style was very sleek and nice (I personally loved the looks). The removable speakers are nice, but can be annoying at times to put back on. The cords can tangle as well, which can be annoying. (cords can be replaced, however and detach from headphones.) The interchangeable ear cushions are a nice feature, but I found myself not changing them out too often because it is a long process. Over-all, I would most certainly recommend this product if you are looking for a set of headphones that deliver in base, quality, style, and mobility.

I recently bought these after my lowriders broke. I have to say, I am really impressed with the sound. The bass is nice and clean and doesn't drown out the rest of the music. They are pretty comfortable, but after a few hours they start to annoy my ears a bit. BUY THESE!

I bought these headphones for my sister's birthday with the expectation that she will be happy with the looks and the sound. The headphones look exactly as on the photo and the sound really exceeded my expectations! Really great bass! Ordering one pair for myself right now.. Didn't wear them long enough to say something about the comfort of the headphones but they fit my head quite well, although I can imagine they would be uncomfortable if you have a large head..

They sound great for the price, especially the bass BUT they are really uncomfortable. After a few minutes of wearing them, my head starts to hurt. Also, the sound leaks out of them even when the volume is not turned up very loudly. I don't really feel comfortable wearing these anywhere quiet, like the library.

This is my 6th Skullcandy headphone and my favorite. I use them with my Android phone and have to set the volume to the lowest setting and keep them half-way off my ear in order to not get blasted. I have a large head and find them very comfortable plus they secure very nicely with any position I set them to on my head. I would buy this style again.

Okay so I just got these in the mail about 2 weeks ago and I am very happy with the sound quality, comfort and all the cool features. But I was very unhappy with the way they were built, I almost DONT want to take them anywhere because of how thin and low profile they are, it seems like it would break any second. and also, the mic function doesn't work.

The Next In A Long Line
August 26th, 2012
by Chris M
I've owned mainly Skullcandy earbuds, from Ink'd to 50/50, to FIX, and now Heavy Metals. I loved the earbuds, and still use them today, but one thing I dont like, is that they would irritate the insides of my ear canals. So I looked into some on- or over-ear headphones. My girlfriend got me the Cassettes for my birthday, and I was legitimately surprised but the sound these little things have. The "Supreme Sound" motto Skullcandy promotes definitely doesnt fall short. They sound great. The bass is incredible, and the mids and highs dont distort on high volume. They seem to be built well, made of sturdy materials. I personally dont have any complaints about the comfort. While not up to par with say Aviators (for obvious reasons), I still listened to them nonstop for nearly 3 hours today, and had no complaints about it. Another complaint, however small, is that on high volume, the sound does bleed considerably, but I suppose thats to be expected if the speakers themselves can detach from the headband. Which brings me to my next point, the detaching of the speakers. While a really cool idea, I personally feel like the latches wont last very long and will weaken if used too much. That being said, I personally dont take them out often, usually only to show a friend that it can do that. I love that the cord detaches completely, makes it nice to store and transport. I havent used the silicone ear cushions, and likely wont considering I have read a few reviews that say its a pain getting the pillow ones back on. Overall, I love the headphones. I read reviews that bash the sound quality and laugh. I feel sorry for those deaf individuals. They sound great, and are, in my mind, worth the money. Great job Skullcandy!

August 22nd, 2012

I wanted these for a minute so I'd figure that I would just order them. When I first listened I was a bit taken back because the sound was a bit muffled. Though the great bass made up for that and everything seemed to blend good after a while. These aren't the most comfortable to be honest, but it isn't the worst. My biggest problem is the sound leakage. It's pretty bad. Though it's to be expected of a on-ear headphone. I would almost love these headphones if it wasn't for the leakage. Overall, these are pretty good headphones. If you're interested in Beats Solos get THESE. They sound identical, save money.

A truthful review
August 22nd, 2012
by Nateandfriends
I'm getting tired of reading great review after great review on something, buying it, and having a completely different experience. Almost everyone claims these to be a great pair. I have purchased several pairs of Skullcandy headphones and have been pleased. These however, disappoint. My main problem with these headphones are that they are pretty uncomfortable. It really doesn't matter how good the sound is, or how cool they look if you can't wear them. I can withstand the discomfort of these for about 15 minutes before I have to shift them to relieve pressure. So that's the big problem. As for other items: Removing the ear piece is pointless. The highest volume cannot compare to that of the speaker on my phone. So if you imagine you'll be using these as something other than headphones, you may be mistaken. Also, I can't say yet, but I would guess the hold would breakdown if you are popping the ear piece out often. It's not a great connection, doesn't appear to have strength to withstand time. I do like the idea of removing the cord. I travel and it's nice to keep things from tangling. Keep this idea going, but add that fabric covered cord, that's a great thing. Also, the folding aspect is nice, works, no problem there. I tried out the rubber ear covers, they were even more uncomfortable than the foam. Reapplying the foam ear covers is difficult and they already incurred slight damage, so you don't want to be switching often. Not for people with a large head. I have an average head; I have to use these at the maximum extension for a proper fit. The sound is OK. You are basically buying $50 worth of sound. They are not terrible, but if you are particular about sound, you may want to spend more than $50. It's tough to find a pair of headphones with special features and a cool look for less than that price.

You can do much better for $50
August 13th, 2012
by Spencer
These should not be worth $50. They really do sound like you are playing a cassette tape through them. They sound like a $25-30 pair of headphones. I bought these because I warrantied my 50/50s that stopped working and received $50 in credit (which was awesome). I was excited to get them because I thought they could only sound better than my 50/50s because they have larger drivers. I opened the box and plugged them in, and to my dismay the sound quality is really not good at all. Albeit, I currently use a pair of Klipsch Image S4's (which, for $80, I really do recommend) so maybe I am spoiled. I am going to return these Cassettes and instead get some 50/50s again. Visually, the Cassettes are very appealing and seem to constructed well. The problem is that Skullcandy threw cheap drivers in them that sound muddy. Another problem is that the sound leaks A LOT. The person next to you can easily tell what song you are listening to. Also, they do not block any outside background noise. I would compare these headphones to a car that looks fast but can be beat by a Prius in a drag race. How they sound (I am listening to them as I write this, so it's accurate): - Highs: Not crisp at all. Very muffled. Voices do not sound natural. To be honest, the highs sound better in a pair of the white apple ear buds (I just put them in to compare). - Mids: If I had to pick a strong point, this would be it. Snare drum hits and some guitar riffs sound pretty good. They are much better than the white apple ear buds though. But I am distracted from this because the highs sound muffled and unnatural. - Lows: Very lacking. It's like they are underpowered and almost non-existent. Not nearly as good as the 50/50s or the Klipsch Image S4's. Better than the white apple ear buds (because ear buds actually can't produce any type of bass).

I got these a few days ago, they are my first ever type of skullcandys and I have to say I'm impressed. when I first got them I wanted to test the bass so I put a song on which was basically all bass and the cassettes handled it well although the only problem being you need to have max volume to really get the bass but a good thing about having the volume on max is that the headphones start to vibrate, I was getting gassed when they were vibrating. The value of these headphones are good. The quality is good. The comfort however is alright, after a while of using them your ears start to hurt but other then that they are perfect.

A Proper, Lengthy Review...
July 30th, 2012
by Daniel
It appears most of the reviews of these are pretty small and not very detailed, and look like they're written by 12 year olds, so here's a proper lengthy review of the Cassette's by Skullcandy. Having listened to them for a decent length of time in a variety of genres I think I can carefully assess all aspects of these: Sound Quality - By far the most important part of any set of headphones. The sound quality is exceptional. Definitely on par with 'Beats Solo HD' sound-wise, having 'borrowed' a friends set for a considerable time. These are very bassy, and manage the lower frequencies much better than most headphones in the lower/entry end of the scale. The mid's are managed well and high's don't seem piercing or painful to listen to. They are far from tinny. This obviously doesn't mean they compete with 100's of pounds worth of DJ headphones, but for 95% of headphone users these are more than adequate and will please. Unfortunately these appear to leak when turned up fairly loud too, although they isolate external sound very well. 9/10. Build Quality - The headphone band is made of a satin plastic which is slightly rubber-like to the touch. The extender bands are made of metal which is a welcome addition. All hinges feel secure and the whole quality of these headphones is exceptional. The speakers pop out with a fair bit of force, and feel nice and secure inside their slots. For this price, you simply cannot knock the build quality, it truly is exceptional. However, the only downside is the cable. Personally, I like a thick cable - they feel less likely to break. However this is simply a preference and most headphones will roll out with this style cable, similar to those found on stock Apple in-ears. However I've seen no sign of weak spots and the detachable cable can easily be replaced at a low cost, so therefore I'm going to give these a 10/10 for build quality. Comfort - Over-ear headphones generally seem more comfortable than on-ears for me, but these are very comfortable still. They don't hurt your ears after long periods of listening. However, they are rather short for people with long/big heads. I have to have them extended to the 2nd from longest setting and struggle to see how anyone can use them with the extender bar on its lowest setting. Unless you have an incredibly small head. However they fit well and if I had a small head then maybe I'd think differently. 9/10. It is however worth noting that the non-slip pads also supplied aren't intended for comfort and therefore aren't THAT comfortable, although not terrible either. Features - the pop out speakers are an excellent feature. Being wired they also have no internal battery so unlike some other portable speakers these are great for travelling to festivals/camping/etc. Something I've not seen before and personally love. The folding mechanism is smooth and these fold nicely into a small secure portable shape. The detachable cable is also welcome incase you need to replace the cable. 10/10. Price - Probably the first thing people look for. These are very well priced headphones. I would happily pay more having listened to them. That's not to say they're worth £100/$150 or near, but they are exceptional for the price and blow everything else around this price out of the water. Especially when you consider delivery (see below). 10/10 Delivery - More of a review of Skullcandy here, but nonetheless exceptional. US to UK in 2 working days. Wow. 10/10. OVERALL OPINION - 9.5/10 or 4.5/5 stars. Excellent value for money, and rival headphones that cost twice or three times as much. Definitely worth the purchase and I personally would recommend them to anyone over Beats Solo's, the build quality for the money is exceptional. Would buy from Skullcandy again. Although - the lifetime warranty isnt valid here in the UK or anywhere in Europe!? What's up with that Skullcandy!? Although I doubt I'll ever need to claim it still should be available in my honest opinion if it's available elsewhere. - Dan S

These headphones are amazing. I love them. The sound quality is great. I just got them today and I've been listening to them for the whole day. I love them. It's worth the money. The bass sounds amazing on these. The only thing I don't like is that the foam/padded headphones are EXTREMELY hard to get back on. Fantastic Headphones (If You Can Get Them Below Retail)
June 18th, 2012
by John Pilgrim
I recently picked up these headphones for $27.00 (50% coupon + tax) with free shipping; you can't beat that price. When the headphones arrived I was more than thrilled because they seem very well built. They're made out of a nice matte, velvety-plastic which feels great to the touch. They're also incredibly small and can easily fit in a pocket. As for what's in the box (a very nice box I must add). They come with a nice small string bag and the headphones themselves (with their detachable cable). Sadly their are no stickers. As for the sound and comfort. I am not a hardcore headphone guy (although I want to be) but for my needs these headphones are great. I originally picked these up just to have on vacation since my Skullcrushers broke, and I am very glad I did. The sound overall is great (I'd rank these about even with the 1st gen. Hesh) with good bass, mids, and decent highs. Although I must say at times the highs could get a bit overwhelming but I'm going to base this on the fact that these headphones aren't worn in yet. Overall a great pair of headphones with a good fit that isn't too tight or too loose (my first pair of on-ear cans so it took some time to get the perfect fit). Originally this pair was just to hold me over until I got a more expensive pair, but I can see that there is so much more here and I will be replacing these in the future if they break (which quite possibly might never happen with Skullcandy upping their build quality).

Great Headphones!

They have really good sound quality, it would be nice if the joints of the headphone were able to lock (not be so loose). THE POINT IS, these headphones are amazing! Really light on your head, the comfort might not be so great but then again they are on ear, not over ear headphones.

I bought these earphones because I loved how they look, and also because you can disassemble the speakers and it's collapses easily for transportability. The frame is made of silicone plastic (I think). It has a rubbery, but solid feel. There's a metal strip in the middle of the frame, and you extend the length of the frame by pulling on both ends. I've had these headphones for 2 weeks and haven't had a chance to use them a lot; however, the blue paint is starting to rub off. It looks like there are stains on them now. I have some trouble snapping the speakers back in the frame because there are some excess plastic nubs that stick out. The sound is decent, but I still prefer the skullcrushers over these.

Overall: Awesome

I've had these for 2 weeks now, and I've listened to them multiple hours in a row each day. I really, really like them as a whole. Sound quality: Great. Overall crisp, but the middle-high tones can sometimes get a little piercing at higher volumes. The bass is great, but in order to enjoy it you do have to crank it up a little. Comfort: Good. The backs of my ears get sore after a few hours, and I have to rest my glasses on top of my ears with them on, but none of this bothers me very much. Extras: I love that I can detach the speakers to share with someone, hit the slopes, or put them in a Skullcandy hoodie. They snap in securely, so I don't have to worry about them falling out. They do leak very slightly when you're listening at higher volumes, but this is barely noticeable to the people around you. The replaceable double jack cord is awesome, since that's where most headphones break anyways. As a whole, these are the best headphones I've owned yet! I'm loving the heck out of 'em, and I can't wait to enjoy them for a very long time!

I got these headphones today, and I couldn't be happier. The bass on these beats any headphone from Skullcandy that I have ever tried. (ink'd, 50/50, Lowrider, Icon, Icon 2, Hesh, Agent, and Fix being a few of those I've tried.) And the sound quality on these bad boys isn't something to shake a stick at, they sound just as good if not BETTER than their pricey competitors. These headphones should have Dre shaking in his overpriced boots in no time. They are built better than any other Skullcandy headphone I've ever tried before either, with rubberized exterior and a solid metal arm extender, I have a feeling these won't be breaking anytime soon. If Skullcandy keeps putting together more & more creative headphones like these, they will be the world's largest supplier of headphones in no time.

I've had these for about 12 days now, and I've listened to them for multiple hours in a row each day. I used to have earphones for like 2 and a half years before this, so the sound quality is great compared to them. However, I noticed that at louder volumes certain middle-high tones can be a little piercing, but in order for the bass to be enjoyable you've got to crank them up somewhat. At times the sound overall can come off a little fake, but most of the time it's crisp. The piercing is especially prominent in choral music with loud sopranos and orchestral music with loud strings and flutes. Turning it down fixes it, though. Sound isolation is awesome even at lower volumes, but they do leak the tiniest bit at higher volumes -- this is barely audible to people around you, unless you're in a perfectly silent room. Even then, it's not that big of a deal. As far as comfort goes, I haven't had the biggest problem with them for extended use. My ears do get a little sore after a few hours, and I have to rest my glasses on top of my ears when I've got the Cassettes on or my ears really will hurt. However, this doesn't bother me much at all. I'm not worried very much about durability, since most headphones of any kind usually go bad in the cord somewhere, and the Cassettes have a replaceable cord. Also, I love the fact that you can replace the speakers in the Skullcandy hoodie with these better-quality ones. Overall, I am loving the heck out of these headphones and I can't wait to enjoy them for a very long time.

Skullcandy is stepping up their game.

A few weeks ago I was looking to buy some new icons. Went on this website and was astounded that Skullcandy was no longer putting out the greatest ski headphones invented. I was mad. So I bought these guys. These are the first pair of Skullcandys I have bought that haven't had an annoying tinny sound to them. The bass is unbelievably good and they are extremely clear sounding. I compare these to Lowriders. They fit like them but take the sound quality and multiply it by 10 and cut all of the bulk and you get the Cassettes. Change is good.

I just picked these up today, and I was astounded at the sound quality and bass. They look as great as they sound and add a new light to any music you listen too. The bass is clean and crisp. It leaks ever so slightly, this is BARELY noticeable. It is worth every penny paid for it, good work from the Skullcandy Team!
