For starters, the Skullcandy Heavy Medal's are very lightweight and have a great design. Initially, I had some difficulties getting these to stay in my ears; however, after swapping out the tips they fit like a glove.
Read More...It's really helpful to have three different types of tips in the packaging. To say the least, I would've been really disappointed if I ordered these and had to run out to get some tips, but fortunately they came with everything I needed to rock out. Here's a little tip for you: use the complimentary pair of Comply Foam Tips thats included, they worked the best for me.
What I really liked about these was that they are very strong (hence the name Heavy Medal). The earphones are housed in solid metal, but were surprisingly lightweight. It's kind of like an oxymoron- solid and lightweight. The cord on these seems to be very nice, and the volume, song control, and microphone was placed well enough that it wasn't a nuisance.
Inside the metal housing are very large 13.5 mm drivers. This is great because generally 11 mm is standard-fare for earphones. My favorite Skullcandy's are the FMJ line, which sound great with 11 mm drivers, so I was really anxious to give these a shot.
In honor of the last nights Grammy Awards (& Valentine's Day), I checked out Esparanza Spalding's album on iTunes. First of all, I'm not much of a Jazz person; however, her music was very interesting and gave me a wide range of sounds to test these bad boys out. In terms of the earphones, they sounded great- although that's not surprising since Skullcandy always holds themselves to a high standard, especially for the reasonable price.
I was very surprised at the bass these packed. Although, after sifting through the press release I realized it's because they were engineered to increase the air flow in the ear canal, which also helps with the other little bullet point: outstanding directional sound projection. I honestly can't imagine picking a better test album, because all of the interesting little elements of Esparanza Spalding's music were very clear - in fact, I was kind of shocked at how great the directional sound was, as I felt as if I was really at the concert. This was really kind of shocking for a pair of earphones.
As usual, I tried these out with an iPhone and Droid (G2) to make sure everything worked- much to my surprise, the controls worked with the G2, which most of them don't. The microphone sound quality was actually very impressive. The one thing that confused me at first was how to use the track control, but I figured out that I needed to actually press the button (it clicks), which I came to enjoy because most of the track controls are so sensitive it changes by brushing into your coat.
The bottom line is that these are great earphones for whatever you need. If you're looking for something that provides exceptional sound quality, works seamlessly for the iPhone & iPad, and is sturdy and durable, definitely check these out. Not to mention, these are under $100, so right in my price range! I actually enjoyed these so much that I may need to give them an extended testing.

The sound quality was amazing, perhaps the best I have ever heard in any pair, but they are pretty bulky, making them difficult to jog with. They were pretty pricy too. I currently have the 50/50 and they seem to be doing the job for a fraction of the cost.

These are probably the sturdiest earbuds I have come across. I must say, they are very good in that they do look good and they withstand a lot of punishment. In terms of the sound department though, I unfortunately say this time is a bit lacking. I just recently did a sound check, and my first Skullcandy Ink'd (not the Ink'd 2) had better sound quality AND bass than this pair of earbuds. I was expecting a lot more because of the $80 price tag put on, but was sorely disappointed... Also, in terms of comfort, I would say that these are a tad uncomfortable. Yes, you eventually get used to them, but they never reached the amount of comfort that the Ink'd gave me. The sound isolation is not as good too. As an alternative, I would recommend the Ink'd 2, as I did another sound test with them, or the Smokin' Buds or the 50/50.

Great Sound but the design is flawed

I have to give these ear buds two thumbs up for sound, the bass is amazing and the balance between the treble and the bass is awesome. There is a design flaw which makes these ear buds so uncomfortable to wear that I have to wait for summer to wear them. I live in Whistler and I probably get on average about 60-70 days on the mountain. As soon as you put a toque on because the ear buds stick so far out of your ears, the pressure the toque creates on the ear buds and then within your ears make them very uncomfortable and then once you put your goggles on you can't keep them in your ears. I do not think the R&D team put a lot of thought into what happens when someone puts something over the ear buds and the pressure that creates within the ear. Save yourself $30.00 and buy a pair of the 50/50's, they are by far the best value Skullcandy has going and the sound from the 50/50's is absolutely amazing as well as very comfortable to wear.

I got this for my little brother a long time ago. I ended up getting a pair even though Im not a huge fan of ear buds. I enjoy these more than I thought I would I have the Fix but these have a similar build with better material and bass. They are great for the price. Would give a 5 in comfort but Im personally not a ear bud fan.

These headphones are super clear and have the bass I was looking for after my FMJs broke. The only thing is, I have to run my music through my pre-amp into these headphones to utilize the massive bass these babies have. My iPod just cannot put out the power.

Bringing the Bling!

These headphones sound great but most of all they bring the bling. They are great for running and don't fall out, but as soon as I hit 14 mph on my bike you get a lot of windnoise. For cycling I recommend the Fix or the 50/50. The Fix are my favorite headphone of all time, and these have better sound than the Fix, but not if you are listening to an iPhone or Android phone--you can mainly tell a difference with a personal CD Player or a high bit-rate audio download. ' So I would get these headphones not so much for the sound, but most of all they look way more bling. The carrying tin is pretty sweet too.

These are incredible! I have a surround sound system with a subwoofer but these headphones can go audibly lower than my sub. The sound quality is great and these are really loud. The only issue is that the big medal cylinder can be uncomfortable in your ear, but that can be adjusted rather easily. I have iBeats as well which are $20 more, these just blow them away.

One of the best earbuds out on the market. The bass is deep enough to bump your head, mids are good enough to write your own lyrics, highs are crisp you'd want to listen to music all day and night. On the down side i think these could have better wires like the one on FMJ's. Other than great product. I highly recommend these earbuds

I compared these to all the other earbuds and headphones and these are the best quality because i looked at the tech specs before they removed them off the site and pretty much every thing is 20-20 freuency rate, but these earbuds are 5-22 frequency rate and these are there best product if you want supreme sound and thats the way to tell if there good or not and these are the best earbuds on the market and ive stuck with these.

This is nothing against skullcandy because i love their products I have owned the 50/50, FMJ, Smokin Buds, Hesh, SkullCrushers, and now Heavy Medal I only listen to Hip-Hop/Rap and BASS is an absolute must I thought I would try these this time since they are supposed to be pretty good... But I am disapointed and will be returning these tomorrow and buying more 50/50s the bass sounds good... just not loud or deep enough... i feel like i need turn turn the volume up but then the treble overpowers the song and really hurts my ears... These earbuds are very clear and sounds great... just not how i like to listen to music... also they are a little bigger and heavier

Phenomenal
Over the years, I've had different ear buds, from different brands. Some from JVC, some Sony. But these blew every other brand outta the park. The $80 is worth it, believe me. The Comply Memory Foam ear tips and metal travel case are the icing on the cake. For you Bass lovers, really consider getting these.

I have a pair of Skullcandy Titans now. Love the sound and the fit. The passive noise cancelation is almost as good as the active NC I had in a previous Bose headset! However, the wires on my Titans are starting to tangle too much and I can tell they are going to start to short out causing audio problems. I'm interested to find out if Skullcandy has any wireless Bluetooth earbuds and, if not, any plans to make some? That would be awesome!

will i be able to comfortable put my eyepod in my workout shorts and have the earphones in my ear comfortably? I'm about 6 feet tall so from my hip to my ears would be around 3-4 feet im guessing

It depends what activity you're doing - I woud recommend an arm band or setting the mp3 device on a treadmill if running. If lifting, etc, they should reach to your pocket if your shorts aren't too baggy or low.Age: 25-34

I just received a voucher from Skullcandy after my 50/50s bit the dust a few weeks ago. I'm torn between with the Fix In-Ear or Heavy Medal. Thoughts?
I go to the gym at least 6x a week and bike everyday. I use public transportation as well so noise isolation is helpful. My 50/50s were great until 1 earbud randomly stopped working... but I can't decide between these or the Fix In-Ear. I love bass. I love clarity. I want the biggest bang for my buck and I do not want them falling out of my ears while I run (which the 50/50s constantly did).

Why do the technical specifications posted for the heavy medal ear bud, among other models of ear buds, not include speaker diameter, frequency range, and other specifications? Some people may want to compare specs from other brands when spending the additional amount for "higher quality" noise makers. When tech specs are readily available and people can easily see they are getting a larger diameter speaker that produces deeper bass and supremely clear mids and highs, the total volume of sales may increase. I have a pair of Skullcandy Titans now. Love the sound and the fit. The passive noise cancelation is almost as good as the active NC I had in a previous Bose headset! However, the wires on my Titans are starting to tangle too much and I can tell they are going to start to short out causing audio problems. I'm interested to find out if Skullcandy has any wireless Bluetooth earbuds and, if not, any plans to make some? That would be awesome!

You might have a conflic with one of the apps you have installed. I had the same problem with the music app doubleTwist which had a mic setting that was turned off. Either delete your apps and add them back one at a time or see if you can find the conflicting setting.Age: 25-34

I just received a voucher from Skullcandy after my 50/50s bit the dust a few weeks ago. I'm torn between with the Fix In-Ear or Heavy Medal. Thoughts?
I go to the gym at least 6x a week and bike everyday. I use public transportation as well so noise isolation is helpful. My 50/50s were great until 1 earbud randomly stopped working... but I can't decide between these or the Fix In-Ear. I love bass. I love clarity. I want the biggest bang for my buck and I do not want them falling out of my ears while I run (which the 50/50s constantly did).

Not that i know of... though they may be making new colors next year sometime. I had the same exact thought when i was thinking of buying these...But these look completly AWESOME in gold. I didn't think i would like gold but i couldn't wait for new colors so i went ahead and got them. I gotta tell you...these look Sooooo cool in gold. I'm so glad i got them! Plus they come with this stylish round skull tin to keep them in which just makes them THAT much cooler ;DHope this helped!

Why do the technical specifications posted for the heavy medal ear bud, among other models of ear buds, not include speaker diameter, frequency range, and other specifications? Some people may want to compare specs from other brands when spending the additional amount for "higher quality" noise makers. When tech specs are readily available and people can easily see they are getting a larger diameter speaker that produces deeper bass and supremely clear mids and highs, the total volume of sales may increase. the mic may be broken, try disabling headset controls. i had smokin buds with mic, and they tried to open up voice commands every 5 seconds. if the mic is turned off and it still happens, theyre probably broken. try them with another audio source.Age: Under 18
