We tested two models from Skullcandy, the 50/50s and the Fix. These 50/50s, the cheaper of the two, are sort of half way between in-ear headphones and traditional earbuds, and they provide decent sound for a decent pricetag ($50).

The 11mm drivers provide a richer audio experience than other buds under $50, but they've got other issues.

Until recently I hadn’t paid much attention to Skullcandy’s headphones and headsets—the company’s focus on extreme sports, punk- and hip-hop-inspired aesthetics, and too-clever product names (case in point: “Smokin’ Buds”) suggested I might not be in the target audience.

Great All Around Bud

Out of the box, these earbuds delivered deep, pumping bass, but also left the treble intact. Sometimes, earbuds with deep bass muddy the mids and treble. These do not what-so-ever. Incredible sound quality for a great price. Highly recommend.

Key Features

The unruly 50/50 bud, a composite earphone that's half mic, half bud, and all boom. With superb fit and a beastly 11mm driver, the 50/50 pumps bass deeper than your bag of kickflip variables, and sounds richer than your dirty uncle. And unlike a sketchy 50/50 varial heel-flip, our 50/50 polycarbonate backside mashes the aluminum frontside in perfect symmetry. The Skullcandy 50/50: composite bud, killer odds.
