At 28, Thiago Silva is one of the premier defenders in world football today. Nicknamed "o Monstro" (the Monster), he first broke onto the scene in helping hometown club Fluminense reach the 2008 Copa Libertadores final. A year later he signed for Italian giants AC Milan, and quickly established himself as one of the most consistent and commanding centre-backs of his generation. He won a Scudetto (League Championship) and Italian Supercup during three seasons with the Rossoneri, before free-spending French club Paris Saint-Germain made him an offer he couldn't refuse in the summer of 2012. His leadership is unquestioned, testament to that is his standing as team captain at both club and international level. After leading Brazil to the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 title, Thiago has his sights firmly set on next year’s World Cup on home soil.
