NAME: Derrick Rose
HOME: Chicago, IL
BIO: Derrick Rose made a name for himself in Illinois long before he became the Bulls star he is today. He led Simeon Career Academy to back-to-back State Championships, was named USA Today High School Player of the Week, Illinois Mr. Basketball, was selected for the Nike Summit Game and McDonald’s All American Game. After leading the Memphis Tigers to the NCAA Finals his freshman year, Rose became the first point guard to be drafted #1 in over a decade. Despite the pressure and high expectations of being the Bulls' #1 draft pick (2009), Rose earned All-NBA First Team Honors, became the 5th player in NBA history to post 2,000 points, 600 assists and 300 rebounds in a season, and was Chicago’s first All-Star starter since Michael Jordan. Two years later, he was selected the 2011 NBA MVP, becoming the youngest player ever to win the honor. In late 2012, Rose went down to injury with a "pop" heard 'round Chicago and a torn ACL. We anxiously look forward to his return this NBA season.
