  The Crusher, sounds like a WWF show name huh? “Throw your hands together forrrrrr thhheeeee CRRRUUSSHHHHERRRRR’. But it’s not, it’s the newest addition to Skullcandy’s family of headphones. And it kinda looks like the kid of Hesh and MM Mike….

  You can read all the fancy specs and impressive info on the images above, screen snapping was way easier then/than? retyping all the info.   Oh and Black is definitely the color you want to run with. Red looks, well, I’m not you’d be walking round with Red headphones on. And white, yeah you’re not Don Johnson, so Black it is.

  Kevin Durant and Wale Star in Sick New Skullcandy Crusher Video

  We love this. Check out the new spot that Skullcandy just released for their new Crusher headphones starring Kevin Durant (with a cameo from Wale).

  The commercial speaks perfectly to the Crusher headphones and the technology they’re introducing to the market. They use “dual driver” technology in the earcups to create bass that you can actually feel. We’ve tried them and they’re awesome.

  How many headphones count a threat to “make your eyeballs bleed” as a virtue? At least one, the Skullcandy Crusher, which uses an unusual speaker technology to generate vibrations that are perceived as powerful bass notes.

  The Crushers are an over-the-ear enclosed headset, which both accentuates the bass vibrations and muffles what mass transit seatmates are likely to hear.

  The trick is that the Crushers turn speaker design on its head. Normally electrical pulses go to a weighty stationary magnet that make a lightweight coil and speaker cone move to produce sound.

  In the Crushers, the coil is stationary. It is the heavy magnet that moves, producing vibrations that you can feel. Through a phenomenon known as bone conduction, those vibrations are perceived as powerful bass.

  In a test, with the bass adjusted to a medium setting, the sound was a bit less sloppy than usually associated with bass-heavy headphones. The effect worked particularly well with rock, pop and hip-hop – although at full blast, it felt as if my head was inside the kick drum. It was less effective on some older jazz recordings and symphonic music, even dramatic movie music, like Danny Elfman’s “Batman” score.

  Although the Crushers enhance the bass, the 40-millimeter driver that handles the rest of the sound spectrum sounded a bit muddy. Individual instruments were indistinct, and higher-pitched sounds, like horns, were muted.

  The headphones fit me snugly, sealed well and were comfortable over a half-hour or so. They fold into a compact size for an over-the-ear headphone and come with a fabric carrying case.

  Skullcandy’s $100 Crusher Headphones Promise To Rattle Your Head, Actually Do

  When I saw Greg Kumparak‘s facial reaction while he demoed Skullcandy’s new Crusher headphones yesterday, I had to go try them myself. When TechCrunch TV director Jon Orlin saw my resulting facial reaction, he decided we needed to get one fresh on camera. 10 minutes later, we had our own Elin Blesener in front of the lens, and her reaction was just what we expected.

   

  With the Crushers, Skullcandy promises something that many a headphone company has promised to do before: to physically rattle your head as a subwoofer might. Unlike the past attempts we’ve seen, these ones actually seem to do it. We sat down with Skullcandy Acoustics Engineer Sam Noertker at our big ol’ CES broadcast booth to chat about how it all works.

  Rather than trying to fake a bunch of bass with digital signal processing, the Crushers use an individually powered second driver to trigger a proprietary (and rather hush-hush) vibration system. Even in the sub-optimal audio testing environment that is the parking lot outside of CES, we all walked away pretty impressed.

  Will the $100 Crushers smoke your $300 Sennheisers or your $500 Shures? Of course not. With that said, the vibration system has a much greater effect than I expected from something I’d been quick to write off as a gimmick.

  Skullcandy's Crusher ears-on at CES: Rumbling headphones that you'll actually want

  Over the years, our ears have been treated (or tormented, depending on perspective) to a variety of rumbles from a multitude of wub-wub headphones. Typically, it's the gaming headphone sector that gets first dibs, but Skullcandy's Crusher is aiming to hit a few more targets. We had a chance to listen to a production version of the impending cans

  -- slated to ship in March for $99 in black, white and red hues -- and we were pleasantly surprised with what we heard. Er, felt. Actually, both. It's battery powered, but it'll continue to deliver tunes even if the cell powering the thumps goes dead. Moreover, it automatically disables when the music stops, preventing you from blowing through too many extra batteries.

  There's a slider on the rear that raises and lowers the sensitivity of the rumble, and we preferred it at about half-cranked. Amazingly, the sensation was actually enjoyable -- and moreover, accurate. We probably wouldn't listen to an entire album with the vibration on, but for movies and games? Yeah, that's clearly the sweet spot. Better still, the conventional 3.5mm headphone jack means that it's as universal as these things get, and the overall audio quality was very much on par with what we'd expect for a Benjamin.   Skullcandy Crusher Headphones Vibrate Deep Bass

  Skullcandy was once known for its outlandish, affordable, mediocre sounding headphones. But that was then. These days, Skullcandy's higher-end headphones actually do sound good for the price. And we wouldn't be surprised to hear Skullcandy's latest and greatest, comfortable-looking over-ear headphones pack a solid punch of audio for the price. The Crusher

  are Skullcandy's new mainstream designed $100 pair of plastic constructed, closed back cans. But these aren't just another pair of headphones, because the Crusher features an independent vibrating driver which is supposed to deliver that extra bit of THUMP right beside the 40mm speaker driver in both ear cups. Much like a tweeter and woofer setup, but not quite. Users will be able to adjust the intensity of the vibration using the on-board control. This interesting setup should help the Crusher pump out satisfying bass that vibrates into your skull while retaining the necessary clarity in the sound. Or so they say.

  Skullcandy's Crusher headphones will be battery powered of course. Because after all, there's a lot of sound that needs pushing. They can fold up for portable carry or storage, and also feature a dethable audio cable with an in-line remote and mic. You'll be able to pick up a pair in red, white and black this March. You can bet these will be awesome for dubstep.
