Skullcandy is seeking a proactive and driven Product Quality Engineer to ensure Skullcandy products exceed customer and market expectations through integrated Quality representation, analysis, and support during product concept, design, development, and commercialization phases. The Product Quality Engineer will also work to ensure production quality continues to meet specification through collaborative work with vendors, engineering, and Skullcandy’s China teams throughout the life of our products.
• Product Development: Ensures Skullcandy products exceed customer and market expectations through integrated Quality representation, analysis, and support during product concept, design, development, and commercialization phases.
o Acts as the Park City-based Quality lead on new product development projects.
o Works as interface between Advanced Concepts Engineering, Product Development, Industrial Design, Sourcing, and Operation Teams during Development and Mass Production (MP) Release; communicates directly with China QE Team and vendors to ensure project meets specifications and development timelines.
o Works with Product Development to utilize analytical tools and processes during development to identify potential failure modes; initiates internal corrective/ preventative actions.
o Develops, reviews, and collaboratively approves test plans, control plans, product validation test results and product compliance documentation with China QE Supervisor during development and commercialization.
o Advises Advanced Concept Design and Engineering teams during concept phases in order to maximize design for quality and manufacturability.
o Maintains PD documentation and its established document control system. Revises and adds appropriate procedures and policies for the control and revision of quality documentation, such as manuals, policies, procedures, work instructions, etc. Represents PD with the implementation of PLM at the enterprise level.
o Works with internal teams in Park City and overseas continuous improvement of design and development related tools and processes to drive effectiveness and efficiencies of the quality and product organization.
• Manufacturing: Ensures Skullcandy’s production quality continues to meet specification through collaborative work with vendors, engineering, and Skullcandy’s China teams throughout the life of our products.
o Works to monitor product quality in the marketplace and drive necessary improvement plans with Engineering and vendors.
o Undertakes Lean Activities and initiates Process Improvement plans using China product/manufacturing data to investigate root cause, determine action to eliminate causes, and manage suppliers and SZ QE Team to follow up on actions.
o Manages the implementation and ongoing maintenance and support of Skullcandy’s Statistical Process Control (SPC) program; directs China QE’s and Suppliers in proper SPC fundamentals, reporting, and action plans to reduce process shifts and product defects.
o Conducts yearly supplier system audits with Sourcing team; creates audit plans, audit reports, action plans, and audit findings close out. Utilizes China Team for audit support and corrective action follow up.
o Works with internal teams in Park City and oversees continuous improvement of manufacturing related tools and processes to drive effectiveness and efficiencies of the quality and product organization.
o Continually works with China QE Team and Suppliers to improve product performance, implement process controls, and quality plans.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, and COMPETENCIES:
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• 3 years of experience in quality, development and manufacturing of audio products or related consumer electronics products
• Experience working for major brand in either OEM or ODM manufacturing a plus
