You have have seen Son painting in the Skullcandy booth at the SIA and Magic tradeshows. Super talented. Recently Son Duong, Mike Ennen, Norman Roque, Joey Meddock and Chad Swanson collaborated to paint several Scion cars. This tour recently hit Indianapolis and Chicago, additional tour dates are TBD. What would you give to be in the sun and sand, right now? Skullcandy rocked Virginia Beach for ECSC…..like we do!! Throw in beautiful beach weather, pumping waves, a few hundred thousand people and Skullcandy and its a beach party classic.  Skullcandy also co-hosted a party with Vans at which Mix Master Mike tore it up and was by far the party of the week! Big thanks to the crew at Coastal Edge for putting on a great event.

After weeks of planning and building it was on! First Lincoln University in Canterbury, Known for its agriculture and set amongst the farming community out of Christchurch, Lincoln throws a massive Winterfest party that included our jibs. Not making the jib hard is key to these events, aimed at all riders and students having fun while introducing top level riding is great to watch, 45 top riders showed up to match it with the Lincoln locals.

A down box and down rail were the ticket, big scaffold set up and an awesome turn out followed by a great line up of kiwi acts including; Tiki Tane, Sambora (Shapeshifter), and 7 piece band Rhythmonyx charge the sell out gig through the night.

Auckland University is in the middle of our largest city, the  logistics in getting everything sorted is pretty difficult due to the traffic and law makers not having much of an idea on what?s going on and doubters saying ?You can?t put a rail jam on in Auckland, there?s no snow!? A call to Snow planet to get a rail and snow and then to the scaffold company and we were away. We’ve tried 5 times to do one of these and failed every time? (Student President Aaron Haugh), it was time for a first. With a smaller set up and having a 5m down bar at our disposal it was on Auckland Universities first ever rail jam, proudly brought to you by Skullcandy and the Auckland University Snow sports Club. Drawing a crowd of over 2500 with awesome beats this event is here to stay. Plans are already in place to go bigger and better next year!! Job well done from the Auckland team. Back home to Christchurch for the final event.

Two days later the Canterbury University Boardriders Association (CUBA) Jib the Foundry was on! The weather looked terrible with rain and snow forecast this was going to be tight; the call was about to be made to postpone but the truck with 20 ton of snow was on its way, so there was no pulling back. With a new flat down box and 6m down bar, the set up is again to try and get all the club members and novices involved as well as top riders. Jib the Foundry always draws a crowd but due to the rain there were doubts, but the crowd braved the weather attracting another 2500 people and a record 110 riders, this was going to be an epic jam.  The rain pulled away at the start at then it poured down, the CUBA team did an amazing job keeping the snow from disappearing and tents were up everywhere to keep the crowd dry. Some however enjoyed the rain so much they got into mudslides resembling the Glastonbury music festival! This proved to be a great night hosted by J Dubs (Shapeshifter crew) and music from local Dj?s Davey G, Percussion, Maddix and Soltrader.

Skullcandy athletes killed it at Crankworx Whistler this year. First off Utah local and 4x National Champion Mitch Ropelato won the pumptrack race with Austin Aldrich a close 3rd place. Mitch was expected to win, he absolutely destroyed the track, however Austin used his dirt jump skills to take out a lot of veterans and come through with his first pro podium!

In the slopestyle Mike Montgomery came through with 2nd place at the biggest event of the year. He did it with his safety run as well, when he began to raise the bar on his second and third runs crashes took him out. Our other guy in the top 5 Kelly McGarry from New Zealand was super stoked with his result, this being his best placement at a major contest. The course did take its share of injuries this year on the riders, one of which being our man Paul Basagoitia, who ended up with a broken shoulder I believe after falling off one of the big drops. Congrats to all our team guys, thanks for supporting Skullcandy!

Our stand had “pasta wrestling” (since mud was hard to find) for product. Winner of each match got a headphone (t.i., g.i. Or lowrider) and the loser got a bud (inkd or smokin). As you can see from the images we had the biggest turnout of all the brands. Skullcandy wins again!
