Watch Out For: Work Drugs
Self-described as a band that 'makes music specifically for boating, sexting, dancing, yachting, and living' or 'Philadelphia's premier Bat Mitzvah and Quinceanera party band', Work Drugs' is our latest up-and-comers to watch out for. The duo has been birthing music like crazy with already three releases this year and their sound is all over the indie folk/pop/dance genre. Listen to “License to Drive”, “West Coast Slide” and “Rad Racer” for your first taste.
Freshies: Kanye West Yeezus
In the three years since My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy dropped Kanye’s headlined Coachella, created a collab album with Jay-Z, and become Kim’s baby Daddy. Exclaiming the other week at Governor’s Ball that he didn’t want his music on the radio anymore, Yeezus could definitely be a step in that direction. Initially we were a little meh about the record. While we were hoping for some new dance beats the rapper/producer is definitely exploring a darker more dub heavy beat in this album that’s less geared towards getting the party started. The album is more reminiscent of 808 & Heartbreak days, while it isn’t bad it’s just not what we expected. Listen to the album below and jam out to our favorites, “On Sight” (the danciest track of the album) and “Round 2” which brings us back to his College Dropout Days.
Currently Obsessed With: Mac Miller Watching Movies with the Sound Off
Kanye’s record wasn’t the only hip-hop gem to drop Tuesday; he’s up against Mac Miller in this week’s releases too. Mac’s Watching Movies with the Sound Off gives us that, “it's so bad it's good” feeling. Wait, we take that back it's good, indulgently good. Not shying away from his usual ridiculous lyrics based off his party lifestyle Mac’s gettin’ down and not afraid to tell you all the gross deets about it. This record definitely has some gems that we’re lovin’. Check out “I’m Not Real”, “Matches” and “Bird Call” for your first listens on his latest release.
