We run this game. Yes, that’s a pretty bold statement to make, but with the reviews we’ve been getting for SLYR and PLYR 2, it’s hard not to feel that way. Gaming just got better with the release of PLYR 1, the latest flagship product from the Skullcandy Gaming Line. This wireless surround headset is lightweight in design with an adjustable headband for dome pieces of all sizes, memory foam ear cushions soft as a baby’s bottom for less ear fatigue, and less heat generation for longer comfort on marathon-style gaming days…meet your girlfriends replacement.
Designed for gamers with attitude, the look and presence of the PLYR 1 are unlike anything else on the market. You shouldn’t have to settle for boring and flimsy designs if you are going to be gaming with a headset for hours on end, and you won’t have to now that Skullcandy Gaming is on the scene.
The look and sturdy build quality only begin to scratch the surface though. We know that performance and comfort are what matters most, and if there were a trophy or achievement for best in class, our line would easily unlock them.
Supreme Sound Audio
We started out with solid acoustic tuning that we knew would not only improve the overall gaming experience by fully immersing you into the game environment, but it will also improve your gaming skill by allowing you to hear all the important audio cues to give you the edge on your opponents. This isn’t just a numbers game, we didn’t just shove the biggest driver or the most drivers in there and try to achieve the “best specs on paper”. Our team worked hard to find the best balance between performance, comfort, and cost, which allowed us to create a high performing product that you could game with for hours without breaking your wallet.
By considering the system as a whole, our engineers were able to properly design and tune the driver and housing to ensure the acoustic performance was able to keep up with the most fast paced games, the craziest movies, and the hardest hitting music. We know that gaming consoles are used for more than just gaming now, they are a true multimedia hub with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and music and podcast streaming. So why settle for a headset that sounds good only for gaming? You won’t have to with the Skullcandy PLYR 1.
3 Position EQ Switch
Speaking of different types of media, Skullcandy once again has you covered with three distinct EQ settings. Tuned for different types of media, our Bass Mode, Supreme Mode, and Precision Mode are selectable with the easy flick of a switch. There’s no need for 10+ settings just to have a ton of settings. Bass Mode for feeling and hearing the explosions or for action movies and Hip Hop music, Supreme Mode offers clean and clear audio delivery with no modifications to the sound signature, and Precision Mode focuses on clean mids and precision highs for hearing details like footsteps and reloading in first person shooters or vocal focus on movies and music.
Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound
One of the many reasons PLYR 1 takes the top spot in our lineup is the inclusion of Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound. Our friends at Dolby have mastered an algorithm that allows for a full surround sound experience from the comfort of a two driver headphone system. Don’t be fooled by multi driver systems that claim to offer a true surround sound system. When it comes down to it, better sound can be achieved with one high quality driver per earcup that works in tandem with a great surround sound processor instead of four cheap and low quality drivers with crossovers that introduce un-needed distortion. After all, your head only has two ear holes, yet your brain is able to process sounds from all around you and tell you where they are coming from. Well, that Dolby algorithm we mentioned above works with your brain to give you a truly amazing surround sound experience from the comfort and convenience of headphones.
Onboard Voice Balancing
Lets face it, you want to keep your hands on the controller as much as possible. Master volume control can be taken care of with just a quick flick of the joystick on the right earcup; and if you press and hold, it accelerates the action in case you need to turn the volume up or down on-the-fly between game sounds and voice chat. If your friends on the network are talking too loudly or quietly, you can also change the game to voice balance with a quick flick left or right on the joystick to get the exact ratio you want to hear.
