Skullcandy Presents: The Week In Music 5.17

Freshies: Daft Punk Random Access Memories

Sooo…in case some how you missed it, Daft Punk’s much-anticipated album, Random Access Memories was “leaked” this week and early reviews are nothing short of rad-tastic. The Robots brought a whole new element to the synthesizer scene and worked with every big talent in the biz. From Pharrell, to Panda Bear, DJ Falcon, to world renowned composer’s and musicians, Paul Williams, Chilly Gonzales, and Nile Rogers. Daft flew in the most skilled artists for quick stays in Paris to collaborate and make sweet, sweet, music. Random Access Memories is the most thought-out and instrumentally influenced album from the duo, and with all the hype that came with this release they didn’t disappoint. The Robots essentially re-invented their signature sound creating a record that can’t be imitated. Loaded with kick drums, 80’s disco, methodically-tuned rhythms, and lets not forget all things electro Daft Punk once again proved why they are considered one of the most influential bands in music history. Recommended tracks for when you get your hands on a download are: Instant Crush, Get Lucky, and Lose Yourself to Dance.

Currently Obsessed With: The Cave Singers

We’re lovin’ on the twangy trio’s latest album, Naomi for summer. Filled with plenty of up-beat indie folk tracks guaranteed to keep you dancing along to Pete Quirk’s roots-rock voice. We recommend, “Have to Pretend” and “Week to Week.”

Watch Out For: Typhoon

The 11-piece indie orchestra from Portland announced this week they’re scheduled to play ACL this year. With their next album, White Lighter slated to drop on 8.20.13 and their latest single, “Dreams of Cannibalism” from their upcoming record now out we’re on the watch for more gems to be released throughout the summer. New to Typhoon? We recommend, “The Honest Truth” to get ya started, expect organs, trumpets, flutes, dramatic ballads, and gorgeous vocals from leader singer, Kyle Morton.

Video Of The Week: Kendrick Lamar – B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe

With such poetic lyrics we expected nothing less than an equally romantic video. Check out Kendrick come to Jesus in his latest music video for, “B*tch Don't Kill My Vibe.”
