Skullcandy Presents: The Week in Music 2.21

Freshies: Phoenix

Skullcandy week in music phoenix album cover

After 4 years since the release of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Phoenix is back! The 2013 Coachella headliner has returned with the new single “Entertainment”, from their upcoming album Bankrupt. Staying true to their indie-dance sound, their latest release is exactly what you expect from the French Rockers. Music that makes you move.

Currently Obsessed With: Local Natives.

Since dropping their second album, Hummingbird, last month I can’t stop listening to the LA- based rock quartet. I liked Gorilla Manor, but I love Hummingbird – its one of those, “we are young, life is short” albums and appreciating that idea alone makes a record for your moments of nostalgia. Last week they debuted the whimsical video for their single “Heavy Feet”. Watch it. Afterwards, you may want bury a cake as well as wonder if the next sandwich you eat is talking to you.

Watch out for: Wild Belle.

Wild belle

Also slated for the 2013 Coachella lineup is the sibling duo Wild Belle. The smoky vocals and alt- folk tunes made for long-distance road trips have been gaining momentum since releasing their first single “Keep You” on the Web two years ago. Now, with a 3- record deal from Columbia the brother-sister team is set to launch their full-length debut album Isles on March 12. Check out their current releases and get hyped on what’s to come.

Video of the week: Diplo - “Butter's Theme” ft. Gent & Jawns.

Before you read any further, let’s make something clear: Diplo is awesome. He is a cosmic form of musical talent that cannot be replicated. The Grammy nominated producer and leader/founder of music label Mad Decent has been paving the way in dance music with his dub-step, techno infused, fist-pumping beats for years and has recently released another gem guaranteed to make asses shake. “Butter’s Theme” ft. Gent and Jawns is a track meant for the festival/club scene (as is, most of Diplo’s music). The latest single comes with a music video that is essentially a kaleidoscope of booty –poppin’ females. Put on your high-wasted shorts, clap yo hands, and enjoy. You’re welcome.
