Skullcandy Shows its Support for Simeon Career Academy

From his birth, Jabari Parker has been destined for basketball greatness. The son of former NBA player, Sonny Parker, Jabari has dominated courts since his early childhood.  In second grade, he regularly competed with kids years older and later, made his 8th grade team as a 4th grader.  Evolving from child to adult he’s remained a dominant player on the court growing and developing throughout his high school career at Simeon Career Academy. Located on the South Side of Chicago, Simeon is nationally recognized as a basketball powerhouse, turning out crazy talent like Skullcandy's own Derrick Rose and winning the Class 4A Championship the last three years in a row.

Precocious beyond his years, Jabari became the first freshman ever to start on Simeon’s varsity team.  He would become a solid contributor and help the Simeon Wolverines capture the Illinois Class 4A state championship.  Additionally, he earned the 2010 ESPN High School Freshman of the Year award - an award he would win in his sophomore and junior years - along with giddy interest from a number of powerful Division 1 universities.  In his sophomore season, Jabari, then 6’8, lead his team to another state championship.  Highlights included a 23-game winning streak and more accolades – 2nd team All-State from the Chicago Tribune and a 1st team All-State mention from the Chicago Sun Times.  According to some basketball-related publications like Dime and ESPN, Jabari, in his junior year, was considered one of the best players in the country.  Scouts clamored to see him play.  And for good reason – Jabari followed in the footsteps of Simeon-alumni Derrick Rose and led the team to the Chicago Public League championship and yet another state championship while sealing his legacy as an Illinois basketball great.

Despite his overwhelming success, Jabari’s well-grounded.  Simeon believes itself to be a “career academy”; each of its 1,500 plus students must be attached to a career path. In addition to being dedicated to his schoolwork, team and local youth, Jabari also remains dedicated to his faith as it’s taught him to be humble, generous and to base his life off good decisions. So not only is this kid uber-talented but he’s got an insane amount of heart. Skullcandy is proud to support Jabari and his Simeon Wolverines.  We’ve provided Simeon headphones to use in information technology classes and labs as well as outfitted the team with custom Mix Masters for life on the road.  Simeon will also have the option of selling customized Wolverine Mix Masters where they will retain 100% of the proceeds.

Our support of Jabari and Simeon Career Academy brings us here today and we want to congratulate our newest Skullcandy family member on selecting Duke University as his school for Fall 2013. We’re stoked to see what his lies in the future for this born-to-be baller.
