We think getting a photo editorial in Teen Vogue is a pretty big deal for a young model. But it was standard stuff for Chanel Iman, who started modeling at the age of 12 and has since hit the runway for Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Dolce & Gabanna, among others. Of course, her work with Victoria's Secret has probably made the most indelible impression. And now we've got her! A quick Q&A with Chanel.
SKDY: We know you’ve been drawing attention to several significant causes for some time. What’s currently got your focus?
CHANEL: I'm a huge supporter of a few different causes, including President Obama's 'Runway to Win' campaign. Right now I'm trying to focus on maturing as a person. There's so much to learn about the world and I want to know all that's going on in it. Anything that I can do to make the world a better place, I want to be a part of.
SKDY: What is your fastest runway outfit change ever? Do you get dressed every morning at that same speed?
CHANEL: It's an adrenaline rush every time! The swimwear shows are definitely the fastest. I always take my time when picking out outfits at home, but I will say I can change pretty quick when I'm in a hurry!
SKDY: What’s the best place in the world for you to slow down, unwind, and catch your breath – at home or far, far away?
CHANEL: Puerto Rico, with my best friend's family. It is a complete getaway and releases any stress for me like no other place on earth. They take good care of me!
SKDY: What type of music are you into? How does it play a part in your everyday life?
CHANEL: Music is everything to me. I wake up and go to bed with it. I listen to all genres, depending on my mood. My taste in music originates from my culture and heritage, and from traveling the world and listening to all kinds of fun sounds and bits.
SKDY: If you had to put together a playlist of 10 of your all-time favorite songs, what would they be?
CHANEL: The list.
