In one of the closest finals ever, Mick Fanning won The Billabong Pro Tahiti defeating long time buddy, Joel Parkinson, in flawless six foot Teahupo'o. It was an all-Aussie affair at the end, with Fanning having dispatched fellow Skullcandy rider, Owen Wright, and Parkinson holding off John John Florence in the semis.
In the finals, Parko grabbed high scores for his opening two rides and put Fanning into a combination situation. For more than half the 35-minute heat, it seemed like Fanning needed to put together a combined score of over 18. Mick then proceeded to score a 9.37 and a 9.5 with just minutes left, and was back to his winning ways in a defeat of Parkinson 18.87 to 18.37. Mick's second victory of the year keeps him in the #1 position for the ASP World Championship Tour Ranking. Cheers, mate!
