If you haven't seen these clips yet, happy Friday. Rip Curl took Skullcandy surfers Mick Fanning and Owen Wright to Fiji's legendary Cloudbreak to film some sick ads for their new Mirage boardshort, using a 30-camera GoPro array that produces some amazing time-stoppage effects. The most recent example of this technique showed up just a couple of weeks ago in some X Games outtake clips, but when you combine it with the fluid dynamics of breaking waves, it takes on a much more surreal and radical aura. In the Making Of edit that follows, you can see the setup itself, and you'll see some usually taciturn surfers go from “huh?” to hyped when they see the results of the camerawork.
