Other October Stuff Besides Halloween

Currently, much of what you see on the world-wide version of the web is focused on the topic of Halloween. In fact, a week ago I wrote some Halloween stuff so that you could get your stoke on. But I know that the human mind is much like a hot tub, filled with beautiful babes and friendly fellows. As soon as the one fat guy tries to jump in, water spills out, people evacuate, and someone’s fingers get extra wrinkly. Another Halloween post=the fat guy. I’m not gonna write more Halloween stuff. I don’t want to mess with your hot tub.

INSTEAD, I’m going to write about other awesome October stuff. What else is awesome about October?

Um….

Hold on a second I’m sure there is something. I just gotta think.

Okay, if your parents did a special kind of dance in late January or February, you probably were born in October. Happy Birthday! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, ask them.

But you don’t want to think about that, so let’s keep thinking. Awesome stuff in October:

Sometimes it starts snowing in the mountains in October. I’ve definitely had some good days skiing in October. Sometimes it’s a hike up before the lifts open, but occasionally a good enough storm comes in and mountains will run a lift or two this month. That is pretty sweet!

The picture above was taken this year on October 6th. It was Utah’s first snow and it BARELY snowed. But it was enough for Dylan Thompson to start crushing.

Which reminds me- Snowboard/Ski movies premiere in October! Those are awesome! You know what is sweet about those movies, besides the amazing display of mind-blowing skill? The soundtracks. Much of the best music to ever travel to my brain (via Skullcandy Headphones, obvi) was discovered after watching a ski movie. So, add “New Music” to the list of good October stuff.

Let’s see, what else…

I’ve actually been doing a ton of rock climbing this October. The temps have been good, and the rocks are extra rocky this time of year (it’s science). Climbing my heart out right up until sunset- that’s good Octobering for sure.

Oh Duh! Oktoberfest. That’s cool! Eat yourself some schitzel, or some shpaetzel, okay Hans?

I just got a message from headquarters informing me that Oktoberfest sometimes happens in September. Septemberfest?

Okay, I did some research on the google and apparently October is National Pizza Month. I should’ve known this because Pizza is what I hope to be buried in when I die someday. I wish I could live in a house or hut made of pizza. I wish a small Roman emperor would bring me pizza every day on a spear. I wish I had a father named John or Murphy, and they would bring pizza to my bed for breakfast everymorning and I’d say “Thank you, Papa!” None of those wishes will probably come true- but if I were to wish that an entire month be dedicated to pizza- well, that has come to pass. October, thank you for being awesome.

Oh, and Jean-Claude VanDamme was born in October. So was the Fonz. What do you like about October? Pizza and what else?
