No need to re-hype Kolohe Andino; he’s creating enough of that on his own by dominating the 4- and 6-star ASP events. Early this week we talked up his move to the 2012 ASP Dream Tour, which would make all of these final 2011 events basically the surfing version of victory laps, but recent news from the ASP has changed all of that: turns out they miscalculated, and points from Kolohe’s early-season wins might be too outdated to count toward a Dream Tour spot. That means he needs to make it to at least the quarter-finals in these last few events in order to lock that Tour position.
Here’s the upshot though: we get to watch Sr. Andino attack the next few contests like a pit bull, which is sure to mean some amazing surfing in the next month or so. Case in point and long story short, the O’Neill Coldwater Classic that’s running right now in Santa Cruz. Kolohe’s already won his first heat with the highest overall heat score, so the fire is definitely burning. Catch the live feed right here.
