Brazil must be feeling a little left behind today. This past Saturday at the SuperSurf Internacional in Sao Paolo it was all-American and all Skullcandy, as rising star Kolohe Andino went head-to-head against his teammate Tanner Gudauskas in the final heat. The Sao Paolo swell may have been less than spectacular, but the playing field was even and the young Californians made the best of what was available, airing at every opportunity and giving a clinic on the progressive, technical small-wave moves that have finally become mainstream on the Tour.
As the rain started to fall along with the deteriorating surf, it would be Andino who took home the win and the $145,000 purse, giving him his third ASP 6-Star victory for 2011 and improving his World Rank to 34. Gudauskas didn’t leave empty-handed either, gathering 2,640 points and a cool $10,000 for his second-place finish.
All in all a great performance for the USA in foreign waters, and a stellar one-two for the Skullcandy Surf Team. Congratulations to both Kolohe and Tanner from all of us here; keep killing it gentlemen.
