It’s October, and summer is officially over…..time is flying by faster than Dennis Busenitz pushing down the street. But there’s always time to take a quick break and catch up with what went down last month in the State of Skate.
Wow….it’s been an incredible year for the young Ishod Wair. He came out with an amazing part in the new REAL video “Since Day One”, getting on the 4star team, a Monster drink endorsement, countless appearances with amazing skating at the Berrics, interviews all over the mags, and winning the Maloof Money Cup am contest last month.
What does he do next…..win the Maloof Money Cup pro in Kimberly, South Africa just this past weekend……AS AN AM! Ishod beat out some of the top pros in Kimberly, being the first am to win a Maloof Money Cup Pro. I’m pretty sure we’ll be seeing his name on the bottom of a Real board very soon.
Congratulations are also due to Skullcandy pro PLG for winning the Maloof Money Cup pro vert in South Africa….which isn’t much of a surprise considering PLG kills it. I’m pretty sure PLG had the South African natives jaws wide open displaying his arsenal above the lip.
Two months ago the guys at the BLVD introduced their new team rider, Rodrigo Peterson, last month they upgraded his status to pro. The Brazillian tech god joins Rob G, Danny Montoya, Danny Supa on the pro squad at the BLVD. How did they celebrate Rodrigo’s new pro status?….with a skate jam futbol madness bbq at the Lincoln Skatepark of course.
With the recent closure of Es footwear, they had no place to put out a very fresh Bobby Worrest street part that was supposed to be released on the Es website.
“Bobby vs the Edgar” did eventually find a place to be premiered at the one and only Berrics. It premiered about two weeks ago and is filled with sick skating. Switch tre Van Owen Bobby?!!! So sick!
Speaking of the Berrics, last month’s United Nations was a throwback to the days of “Animal Chin” where the Powell Peralta team destroyed the park while continuing their journey on the search for “Animal Chin”. Chad Bartie, Jordan Hoffart, Steve Caballero and the rest of the Powell squad put out some sick skating as well as showed us a good time in their journey……did they end up finding “Animal Chin”, kinda, but not really.
Etnies just recently announced the Aussie with hops, Andrew Brophy with Nick Garcia to their roster. I’m sure we’ll be seeing some cool stuff with the new Etnies team very soon.
Congrats to Guy Mariano and the Lakai team for winning Thrasher’s King of the Road last month. The Lakai team managed to stack up all the points to beat last year’s champs Nike SB and walk away with the trophy. Guy killed it doing as much as he could in the contest earning MVP rights.
Skate band LSDemons (Dustin Dollin, the Nuge, Thomas Bonilla, and Richie Belton) performed for the first time in China last month for the Skate Rock tour. You can probably count on them tearing the country up with their antics and music. Hopefully they won’t get deported.
Bryan Herman and the crew over at Pharmacy skateshop just recently had a grand opening at their new shop in Hollywood. Coincidently, the LSDemons performed at the grand opening where a out of control mosh pit shut down the show a bit prematurely. What do you expect guys…..it’s the LSDemons, and of course there’s gonna be a out of control mosh pit.
With working on the new shop, Herm dog is also out in the streets filming with Beagleoneism and the rest of the Shake Junt crew for their upcoming video, which is set to be released about a month away. Get ready for the Hi-jinx!
More video news….I’ve been hearing some crazy stuff Marc Johnson has been doing for the upcoming Chocolate/Girl video. Marc and the rest of the team will be putting in some serious time until their deadline. I’m pretty sure the video wil be one to remember, just like every one they put out. Spike Jonze and Ty Evans always have something spectacular planned.
And even more video news, Sierra Fellers, Abdias Riviera, Corey Duffel and the rest of the Foundation team have been filming furiously in the streets for their upcoming “F” video which is set to be released at the end of this month. Definitely one not to miss out on.
Element announced a Nyjah Houston video part to be released on iTunes 11-11-11. Considering what we’ve seen of him this past summer during Street League Skateboarding, I’m sure the video part is gonna make a lot of people say “What the f*ck?!!!!” countless times.
Last month, Neen Williams was added onto the Supra team, this month, Neen has a pretty kick ass interview in the new TWS with Wes Kremer on the cover, where it was announced Wes is now pro……about damn time Wes-congrats!!!
The classy Frenchman Lucas Puig debuted his new hat company Helas last month. Skateboarding and hats go hand in hand, and I’m sure the hats are moving pretty fast. Get your Helas on.
Torey Pudwill’s ankle is healing pretty fast, and since he’s been off the board for a min, he’s been focusing much needed attention to his fast growing Grizzley griptape company out of Diamond Supply Co. His injury won’t hold him down for too much longer, and I’m sure we’ll see some more bonkers skating from him very soon.
Speaking of Diamond Supply Co…….Nick Tershay and Jeron Wilson introduced Diamond footwear last month. Considering how hot anything with Diamond on it is, I’m pretty sure those shoes will be selling like hot cakes.
Last year, Emerica Team manager, and skateboarding legend Heath Kirchart along with his good friend Jeff crossed the U.S riding bicycles from Long Beach, Ca. to New York City. This year, trying to figure out how to top their thrillseeekingness, they completed a climb to top of El Capitan a couple weeks ago. Not a small feat whatsoever….wow.
That’s what’s up this month in the State of Skate. Stay tuned and keep your knowledge tight in the meantime. -Yoon
