Our biggest congratulations go out to Skullcandy surf team athlete Owen Wright for winning his first ever World Championship Tour event at the Quiksilver Pro New York, and in doing so taking down not only 10-time World Champion Kelly Slater, but also the biggest purse ever offered in a pro surf event ($300k). Surf was, as predicted, even better than yesterday, with Hurricane Katia providing the cleanest 6-to8-foot swell seen in a long time at Long Beach. Owen killed it from start to finish, confidently banging out a 7-point wave and following up with a 9.23 and an 8.60. The final heat score was Owen 17.9 to Kelly’s 14.5. Kelly eventually broke his board, leaving Wright where he started: on top. Owen was ranked 5th in the world before New York, so he will move up to #2 ahead of teammate Mick Fanning. This victory is even sweeter after Owen came second to Kelly in Tahiti last week in death-defying waves at the Billabong Pro Tahiti. A killer performance in the best possible conditions at a groundbreaking, historic event. We’re happy to have Owen Wright and all of our amazing athletes in the Skullcandy Familia. Congratulations again Owen!
