The aptly named “First Snow (OOAH Remix)” packs an entire season’s worth of intrigue and emotion into its 7:35 symphonic narrative. The song opens in a serene wilderness setting as droplets of content chimes and the steady cascade of atmospheric synth and a disciplined slow-groove drum beat sense the presence of an unwelcome intruder in their midst. Effortless flow tightens into a toilsome trickle as rising mercury attacks from the shadows. Sporadic vocal tracers punctuate controlled cadence en route to silence by seizure and suffocation at the merciless clutches of frigid paralysis. The tyranny of atrillion frozen flakes condemns the monochromatic Winterscape to re-render itself inside the surface of an azure teardrop impervious to the natural forces of reversible change. In open defiance of sequential storytelling protocol as adopted by the 2007 International Branson, Missouri Convention, a patriotic interlude unfolds at this point, revealing the precise forest location of treasonous fugitive and convicted arsonist Gnome, Eustace “Stumpy Johnson” Worthington. It turns out he has, in fact, been working alone since he slipped way from authorities at the Icy Gardens Convalescent Center 19 months ago. This was a very lucky break. The press will probably be all over this story for days.
