Afrika Bambaataa rocks Skullcandy!

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Living legend, DJ extraordinaire, hip hop pioneer, founder of the Zulu Nation, and someone whose influence on music and popular culture is nearly impossible to measure — Afrika Bambaataa — was gracious enough to don and use Skullcandy SK PRO DJ headphones at a gig last week. He was also kind enough to let photographer Quang Le snap this image to memorialize the event. We’re not easily star struck, but man…it’s BAM! RESPECT.

DJ Irie shows off new Skullcandy SK Pro colorway

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Miami’s finest son, mega-talented superstar DJ and serious contender for the most congenial disposition ever — DJ IRIE — is a Skullcandy favorite on ohhh, so many levels. Take, for example, how good he looks here modeling the new yellow and sky blue colorway of our SK Pro model DJ headphones. He borders on some Right Said Fred lyrics! If Irie and fellow Skullcandy DJ Darren “Holla” Natoni from Las Vegas were to join forces to form the world’s most handsome bowling team (of members without comb-overs), we’d honestly consider adding very heavy balls to our product mix. And those would definitely be some handsome, heavy balls. The scariest thing is that Irie’s real talent is on the 1’s and 2’s — the man straight OWNS any party he plays.

Good lookin’ out, Irie!!!

Mickey Avalon: So rich, so pretty in Skullcandy

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

It’s never necessary to bicker and argue about who heard who first. If you like something, just be content that you connected with it. For example, who cares if your friend in LA “discovered” hipster/fashionista icon Mickey Avalon before you did. The secret is out and it’s good for everyone. We thought this photo of Mickey flaunting his Skullcandy SK Pro headphones was worth sharing. It hints at Mickey’s ability to seduce cameras and audiences alike.

Mickey’s talent has to stem from more than just his unique life experience…which Boost Mobile was aware of prior to signing him for their recent national TV ads with Best Buy, who apparently are much cooler than most major corporations to support such a controversial, diverse artist. His beats and witty, insightful lyrics are too good. It’s nice to see Mickey - and his rad DJ Kevin - enjoying a piece of the pie after working hard and serving up that self-styled flavor with uncompromising consistency.

Justice D.A.N.C.E.s in 2008 with S.K.P.R.O.s

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

What did Los Angeles do to ensure that it rang in the New Year with gusto unrivaled by any other world cultural hub? Why, they summoned the likes of French electro dance DJ tag-teaming duo extraordinaire, Justice. No one escaped 2007 without falling in love with the Justice track D.A.N.C.E.. This single can brag that it (1) is the first song in a long time that makes you smile when it gets stuck on auto-loop inside your head, and (2) has a music video that is so clever and unique that you don’t mind watching it over and over to try and spot t-shirt designs you’ve actually seen in real life. (We noticed “White” written in the trademark Disney signature font as a shout out to Dim Mak recording artist Whitey… surely they can’t ALL carry real-life subliminal meanings… can they?!!).

So, that’s Justice and they’re massive and smarter than most. No wonder they wore Skullcandy SK Pro DJ headphones during their headlining set at LA’s Hard New Year’s Eve 2008 celebration. They chose the blue ones to symbolize that they’re cooler than liquid nitrogen.

J.Period was recently named as one of MTV’s Top 5 “DJs of the Year” for 2007 - for the third year in a row! Despite this recognition and numerous other “best DJ” awards from The Source, Power Summit, and other legit panels, J.Period’s focus is still just making the dopest music around. Drop by Skullcandy HQ on any given day and you hear select tracks from J.Period “best of” mixtapes with the likes of Nas, Rock Steady Crew, Lauren Hill, B.I.G., The Roots, Big Daddy Kane, The Isley Brothers, or the recent joint with Game Rebellion called “Searching for Rick Rubin.” We can’t get enough of this guy! There’s more to tell, much more to hear, and crazy new material in J’s pipeline now. Visit J.Period online at www.jperiod.com - and like the man himself says, “if you see something, say something!”

Motion City Soundtrack find Skullcrushers somewhat cheeky

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Subwoofers pressed up against your ears invoke different responses from different people…but we think you’ll agree there’s an element of “cheeky” running through Justin Pierre’s mind here, no?
