With $12,000 cash up for grabs and the largest, most fun looking setup Bear Mountain has put together for the pre-season event, Hot Dawgs and Handrails brought out all the best rail riders in the country like Lucas Mcgoon, Chris Bradshaw, Keegan Vailaka, Joe Sexton, Jonas Michelot, and so many more. But in the end SKDY team riders killed it in the finals. Bode Merrill, Zak Hale and Scotty Stevens battled it out for a podium spot but when all was said and done Scotty Stevens ended up taking 3rd , Nick Dirks took 2nd place and Big Bear local Scott Vine who’s also on the Skullcandy program won the big $5000 first place check. So many riders were spotted rockin’ the new icons in all the fresh new colors. This was seriously the best way to kick off the winter and get everyone hyped to go riding. Besides the contest there was so much more going on. A 15,000 acre wildfire was the backdrop for the event but this didn’t stop about 4000 people from coming up to Big Bear. The tent village was the place to be for all the product hungry kids. We tried something new this time, trading in headphones. So besides all the wristbands, bandanas, and stickers we gave away to people who enlightened us with their life motto’s or a unique story of some sort they also had the option of trading in whatever headphones they had for new ones. It worked out well and at the end of the day we had about 150 pairs of old headphones to take home with us and a lot of really stoked kids with new Skullcandy icons. Also inside the lodge there was a product showcase for some of the freshest boards, boots, bindings, and accessories coming out for the 08 season. The day ended with 2 movie premiers and probably one of the best after party’s Big Bear has ever seen. If you have the chance to come to HDHR next season you better take it because The Park here at Bear Mountain never seems to disappoint anyone. Big thanks to SKDY DJ’s MFM, Slipmatt and Episode for holding down the Beats all day long. –MR
